High school roundup for Jan. 8, 2019: Mt. Lebanon boys rally past Bethel Park

The Mt. Lebanon boys basketball team spotted rival Bethel Park a 13-point cushion in the first quarter. The Blue Devils finished on a better note en route to a 65-62 win in Section 2-6A.

Blaine Gartley had 19 points, and Hayden Mitchell scored 14 for the Blue Devils (11-2, 3-0), who outscored Bethel Park, 36-25, in the second half.

Alex Mullen had 18 points, and Ryan Meis added 17 for the Black Hawks (8-4, 0-3).

Peters Township 51, Baldwin 42 — Colin Cote had 10 fourth-quarter points and 18 for the game, as Peters Township (9-2, 2-1) won in Section 2-6A.

Upper St. Clair 57, Canon-McMillan 55 — Chris Pantellis hit a jumper with eight seconds left, and the No. 2 Panthers (12-0, 3-0) closed the game on a 15-8 run to hold off Canon-McMillan (7-5, 1-2) in a Section 2-6A win.

Pantellis had 17 points in the victory. Ethan Beachy scored 17 for the Big Macs.

North Allegheny 71, Central Catholic 56 — Led by Mike Egnaczyk’s 17 points, North Allegheny (6-4, 1-2) secured a Section 1-6A win. The Tigers closed the game on a 19-8 run. Jack Catanzarite scored 18 points for Central Catholic (3-8, 1-2).

Seneca Valley 57, North Hills 35 — Mason Bush poured in 30 points, including six 3-poiners, as Seneca Valley (7-3, 2-1) won a Section 1-6A game.

Penn Hills 86, Albert Gallatin 65 — Tyree Spencer’s 27 points vaulted No. 4 Penn Hills (9-2, 4-0) to a Section 1-5A win. Dylan Shea had 29 points for Albert Gallatin (1-9, 1-3).

Woodland Hills 96, McKeesport 91 — Keandre Bowles had 43 points and 10 rebounds to lead No. 3 Woodland Hills (9-1, 5-0) to a Section 1-5A win.

Deamontae Diggs scored 42 points and had 20 rebounds for McKeesport (6-6, 3-1).

Trinity 69, Thomas Jefferson 49 — Michael Koroly scored 25 points as Trinity (6-5, 3-1) picked up a Section 2-5A victory.

Shaler 66, Armstrong 42 — Matt Bendel scored 21 points to guide Shaler (9-3, 4-1) to a Section 3-5A win.

New Castle 54, Beaver 44 — Demetris McKnight’s 19 points helped No. 2 New Castle (8-2, 3-1) win in Section 2-4A.

Quaker Valley 67, Hopewell 24 — Ryan Stowers had 20 points, and Christian Johnston added 19 as No. 1 Quaker Valley (10-0, 4-0) won in Section 2-4A. Danny Conlan added 17 for the Quakers.

Elizabeth Forward 51, Waynesburg 50 — Xander Pannell sank two free throws with 2.8 seconds left to give Elizabeth Forward (5-7, 1-2) a Section 3-4A win. Patrick Filson had 18 points for the Warriors. Lucas Garber scored 19 for Waynesburg (6-5, 1-2).

Uniontown 71, Ringgold 43 — Billy Deshields had 28 points for Uniontown (6-3, 3-0) in a Section 3-4A win.

Lincoln Park 92, Ellwood City 46 — Keeno Holmes had 18 points, and Casey Oliver added 17 as No. 1 Lincoln Park (9-1, 4-0) won a Section 1-3A game.

Neshannock 60, Beaver Falls 51 — Jake McCormick had 26 points to lead no. 5 Neshannock (9-2, 3-1) to a Section 1-3A win. Jalen Vaughn scored 25 points for Beaver Falls (4-7, 2-2).

Keystone Oaks 63, Freedom 57 — Frank Stumpo had 22 points, and C.J. Morrow added 19 as Keystone Oaks (6-5, 3-1) won in Section 2-3A. Tyler Borgman had 24 points for Freedom (2-8, 2-3).

Seton LaSalle 74, Fort Cherry 47 — Michael Bigley had 18 points, and Jacob Verner added 16 as No. 3 Seton LaSalle (9-1, 4-0) won in Section 2-3A.

Frazier 69, Brownsville 58 — Elijah Santoro scored 26 points to carry Frazier (3-8, 2-3) to a Section 4-3A victory.

California 64, Brentwood 55 — Malik Ramsey tallied 28 points for California (6-3, 2-2) in a Section 2-2A win.

Sewickley Academy 81, Burgettstown 45 — Nate Ridgeway and Isiah Warfield each had 19 points to guide No. 1 Sewickley Academy (6-3, 4-0) to a Section 3-A victory.

Cornell 61, Union 34 — Kaden Divito had 26 points to help No. 4 Cornell (10-2, 2-1) to a Section 1-A win.

OLSH 76, Aliquippa 68 — Austin Wigley had 29 points as Class 2A No. 2 OLSH (10-1) beat Class 3A No. 2 Aliquippa (7-4) in a nonsection game. Dante Spadafora added 18 for OLSH, which made 24 of 25 free throws.

M.J. Devonshire had 21 points, and Zuriah Fisher added 19 for the Quips.

Latrobe 65, Connellsville 49 — Reed Fenton had 20 points, and Bryce Butler scored 18 as No. 1 Latrobe (10-2, 3-0) won a Section 3-6A game. The Wildcats used a 21-15 advantage in the third quarter to break a 25-25 tie at halftime.

Fox Chapel 48, Norwin 39 — Ryan Kerr had a game-high 16 points for Fox Chapel in a Section 3-6A win. Arnold Vento had 11 points for the Foxes (7-4, 2-1). Logan Liebdzinski scored 13 points for the Knights (6-4, 1-2).

Greensburg Salem 53, Gateway 42 — Dante Parsons had 20 points, and Ryan Thomas added 12 as Greensburg Salem (6-6, 1-4) won in Section 1-5A. The Golden Lions have won three of their past four games.

Franklin Regional 74, Indiana 50 — Logan Summerhill had 12 points to help Franklin Regional (9-3, 4-1) earn a Section 3-5A win. Adam Rudzinski and Thomas Merante each had 11 points for the Panthers, who led 41-12 at halftime.

Derry 56, Yough 52 (OT) — Tanner Nicely had 16 points, and John Kerr added 15 as Derry (8-3, 2-1) won a Section 1-4A game. CJ Waldier had 13 points to lead Yough (4-7, 0-3).

South Park 70, Belle Vernon 55 — Santino Tutich had 19 points, and Hunter Lindsay added 17 as South Park (4-6, 2-1) won a Section 3-4A game. Larry Callaway had 25 points and 10 rebounds for Belle Vernon (2-10, 0-3), which lost its fourth straight game.

Jeannette 53, Chartiers-Houston 45 — Marcus Barnes had 14 points to help No. 4 Jeannette (8-4, 4-0) win in Section 2-2A. The Jayhawks opened an 18-5 lead and led 25-20 at halftime.

Zach Crutchman had 12 points, and Jackson Pruitt added 11, including seven in the fourth quarter, in the win.

Monessen 84, Avella 23 — Darnel Howell had 26 points to lead No. 5 Monessen (5-4, 4-0) to a Section 2-A win.

Greensburg Central Catholic 65, Bishop Canevin 55 — Geoff Helm had 18 points, and Max Pisula and Joel LoNigro each had 14 to guide Greensburg Central Catholic (7-4, 3-1) to a Section 3-A victory.

Helm and Jacob Biros (11 points) each hit three 3-pointers for the Centurions, who outscored the Crusaders, 41-23 in the second half.

Deer Lakes 59, Steel Valley 58 — Brad Perrotte sank one of two from the free throw line with 6.5 seconds left to give the Lancers a Section 3-3A victory.

Deer Lakes (7-4, 4-0) led 19-4 after one quarter, but the Ironmen (5-7, 2-3) rallied and tied the game several times down the stretch.

Perrotte scored a team-best 23 points, and Jared Colton added 18 to count a game-high 33 from Steel Valley’s Camden Polak.

Freeport 66, Mt. Pleasant 55 — Aiden Skradski hit six 3-pointers, finishing with a game-high 22 points, as Freeport (7-3, 2-1) registered a Section 1-4A victory. Jalen Brown added 18 points for the Yellowjackets, who outscored Mt. Pleasant, 23-11, in the third quarter to take control of the game. Jacob Johnson scored 16 points, and Nate Kubasky added 15 for Mt. Pleasant (2-9, 0-3).

Leechburg 56, Propel Andrew Street 47 — Eli Rich scored a team-high 13 points, and Jake Blumer chipped in with 10 as the Blue Devils (7-5, 3-1) snapped a three-game losing skid with a win over Section 3-A foe Propel Andrew Street (6-5, 1-4). Sayvon Knight led Propel with 21 points.

St. Joseph 65, Imani Christian 51 — Andrew Sullivan scored 10 of his game-high 23 points in the third quarter to pace the Spartans as they extended their win streak to five games in the Section 3-A win. Matt Arvay added 14 points, and Daniel Fábregas chipped in with 12 for St. Joseph (10-2, 4-0). Aiden Betsill led Imani (1-7, 1-4) with 20 points.

Winchester Thurston 65, Riverview 46 — Thanny Black had 13 points, and Aiden Sebastian scored 11, but the Raiders (5-5, 3-2) dropped a Section 1-2A game. Dusan Krivokapic led Winchester Thurston (6-4, 3-2) with 22 points.

Hampton 58, Kiski Area 44 — Jason Baker scored 10 points for Kiski Area (3-9, 2-3) in a Section 3-5A loss. Ben Ringeisen had 24 points for the Talbots (7-4, 3-2), and Josh Winek added 14.

Girls basketball

Mt. Pleasant 71, Jeannette 51 — Chloe Jaworski had 19 points, and Tara Tuccarello added 17 as Mt. Pleasant (4-8) won a nonsection game. Dymond Crawford scored 23 points for Jeannette (2-10).

West Greene 82, Washington 46 — Jersey Wise had 17 points, and Madison Lampe adeed 15 as Class A No. 1 West Grenee (9-1) won a nonsection game at Class 3A No. 1 Washington (10-2).

Plum 42, Hampton 29 — Kennedie Montue put up a game-high 15 points, and Kelsi Zik added 10 to help lead the Mustangs (5-6, 2-2) past Section 2-5A foe Hampton (1-9, 1-3). It was Plum’s third straight victory.

Gateway 59, Kiski Area 35 — The Cavaliers hung around early, but an 18-3 Gators advantage in the second quarter was the difference as Class 5A No. 5 Gateway won the Section 2 matchup. Hannah Potter and Samantha Worthing each put up 12 points for Kiski Area (3-7, 0-4). Lexi Jackson led Gateway (9-2, 4-1) with 18 points.

Butler 41, Knoch 24 — Madilyn Boyer’s game-high 12 points wasn’t enough as the Knights (6-5) fell to Butler (6-5) in nonsection action. Emma Monteleone led Butler with 11 points.

Cornerstone Christian Academy 48, Cheswick Christian Academy 31 Cheswick Christian Academy (6-3, 3-1) came out cold to start each half as the Chargers fell to Southwestern Christian Athletic Conference foe Cornerstone Christian.
