High school roundup for Oct. 4, 2023: Lilly Snyder’s OT rocket lifts Moon past Montour in Class 3A clash

Lilly Snyder scored with 1:40 left in the second overtime to lead Moon to a 1-0 victory over Montour (8-2-3, 6-2-1) in a matchup of top teams in Section 4-3A girls soccer. Kendall Dydek assisted on the winning goal and Serayah Leech recorded the shutout for the Tigers (10-1-1, 7-1-1).

Avonworth 4, Beaver 1 – Emma Luther had two goals and Megan Obersteiner and Fiona Mahan also scored to help Avonworth (11-1-2, 9-1) past Beaver (6-4-1, 4-4-1) in Section 1-2A.

Belle Vernon 10, Albert Gallatin 0 – Ava Scalise and Kataira Rhodes each had a hat trick and Grace West added two goals for Belle Vernon (5-8-1, 4-6-1) in a Section 2-3A win over Albert Gallatin (1-13, 0-11). Saylor Lee and Sammy Mincone also scored for the Leopards.

Burrell 2, Deer Lakes 0 – Miley Kariotis and McKenna Miller each scored a goal to lift Burrell (10-3, 6-2) past Deer Lakes (6-5-2, 3-3) in Section 2-2A.

Butler 4, Allderdice 0 – Leah Weiland, Malina McElroy, Madison Rose and Ella Rekich scored as Butler (8-6, 6-5) defeated Allderdice (4-8, 3-8) in Section 1-4A.

Fox Chapel 7, Shaler 0 – Emily McKee scored four goals to lead Fox Chapel (9-3-1, 7-3-1) to a 1-4A win over Shaler (5-7, 3-7).

Franklin Regional 6, Greensburg Salem 0 – Reilly Weaver scored a pair of goals while Alana Otley, Eliana Canfield, Abby Paterline and Becca Walters each chipped in a goal for Franklin Regional (9-3-1, 7-2) in a shutout of Greensburg Salem (2-11-1, 1-9) in Section 3-3A. Aris Lamanna and Addison Ayres combined on the shutout.

Freeport 7, Apollo-Ridge 0 – Sam Liput and Camryn Woods each buried a pair of goals and Addy Whitlock, Addy Kristofik and Lizzie Parsi also scored for Freeport (9-1-1, 6-1-1) in a Section 2-2A victory against Apollo-Ridge (2-7, 2-6). Alyssa Alcorn recorded the shutout for the Yellowjackets.

Greensburg Central Catholic 4, Seton LaSalle 1 – Junior goalkeeper Erica Rodriguez, pressed into action due to injuries, made nine saves to earn the win in her first varsity soccer game as Greensburg Central Catholic (6-1, 6-1) defeated Seton LaSalle (5-7, 3-6) in Section 1-A. Riley Kerr had two goals and an assist and Jianna Paterson also scored twice.

Kiski Area 4, Armstrong 2 – Camryn Kunz collected a goal and two assists and Marlee Koziatek added a goal and an assist for Kiski Area (7-7-1, 5-3-1) in a Section 1-3A win. Addison Buffone and Valerie Klingensmith also scored for the Cavaliers. Mylea Riggle scored twice for Armstrong (4-11, 2-8).

Latrobe 7, Penn Hills 0 – Regan Reilly had three goals and two assists and Annalyse Bauer added two goals and two assists for Latrobe (9-2, 7-2) in a Section 3-3A win over Penn Hills (3-9, 1-9). Ava Lorenzi and Gianna Trunzo also scored and Corinne Brunetto and Gabby Cunningham combined on the shutout.

Mt. Lebanon 10, Hempfield 0 – Sara Incorvati had a hat trick for Mt. Lebanon (8-5-1, 6-4-1) in a Section 2-4A win over Hempfield (1-11, 0-10). Jackie Massoff and Casey Gorman each scored a pair and Tessa Peer, Josie Marcheck and Serena Kavalir each added a goal for the Blue Devils.

Mt. Pleasant 6, Woodland Hills 0 – Morgan Gesinski, Riley Gesinski, Rylin Bugosh, Jaden Kantorik, Camryn Kapr and Maggie Piper scored for Mt. Pleasant (12-2, 8-0) in a Section 3-2A win over Woodland Hills (5-6, 4-4).

North Allegheny 10, North Hills 0 – Abigail Stager recorded a hat trick, Sam Braden scored twice and Abby Lang, Ally Ruiz, Kieran Shannon, Averie Bierker and Addison Heim each tacked on a goal as North Allegheny (14-0, 11-0) beat North Hills (0-13, 0-11) in Section 1-4A.

Penn-Trafford 1, Gateway 0 (OT) – Emilie Oslosky scored the winning goal 3:51 into overtime to lead Penn-Trafford (9-4, 5-4) past Gateway (4-7-1, 3-7) in Section 3-3A. Hanna Weishaar assisted on the goal and Rease Solomon recorded the shutout.

Peters Township 4, Norwin 1 – Camryn Klein had a goal and an assist to lead Peters Township (12-0-1, 10-0-1) past Norwin (3-10, 3-7) in a Section 2-4A win. Julia Spergel, Jordan Klein and Marina Hajnosz also scored for Peters.

Riverview 9, Steel Valley 0 – Lola Abraham had four goals and three assists and Mary Quinlan had a hat trick for Riverview (11-1, 8-1) in a Section 1-A win over Steel Valley (2-12, 2-6). Hannah Hudack also scored two goals for the Raiders.

Seneca Valley 5, Pine-Richland 0 – Karly Majeski scored two goals and Ayla Ward, Maddie Marcotte and Ashlee Libby each added a goal as Seneca Valley (10-1-1, 8-1-1) rolled to a Section 1-4A win over Pine-Richland (4-8, 4-6).

Shady Side Academy 5, Keystone Oaks 1 – Sarah Kusnir scored a hat trick to lead Shady Side Academy (10-3, 6-2) to a Section 4-2A win. Makayla McGee scored for Keystone Oaks (9-5, 5-3).

South Park 4, McGuffey 0 – Addison Kerr, Alicia Riberich, Faith Newell and Ari Beck scored as South Park (10-3, 8-0) shut out McGuffey (3-7, 2-6) in Section 4-2A.

Southmoreland 6, Ligonier Valley 0 – Aubrey Seder had five goals and Megan Mehallalso scored to lead Southmoreland (8-3, 7-1) to a Section 3-2A win over Ligonier Valley (0-14, 0-8).

Springdale 7, Serra Catholic 0 – Briana Ross had three goals and three assists to power Springdale (9-1, 7-1) to a Section 1-A win over Serra Catholic (4-5, 3-5). Hailey Marchlewski had two goals and Kai Williams also scored.

Thomas Jefferson 5, Laurel Highlands 0 – Sami Maglicco and Natalie Lamenza scored two goals apiece for Thomas Jefferson (11-1, 10-0) in a Section 2-3A win over Laurel Highlands (7-6, 6-5).

Upper St. Clair 4, Canon-McMillan 0 – Helena Walker and Brooke Bodamer scored two goals each for Upper St. Clair (12-1, 10-1) in a Section 2-4A win over Canon-McMillan (6-5-2, 6-3-2).

Waynesburg 5, Beth-Center 2 – Lake Litwinovich contributed two goals and an assist to pace Waynesburg (10-3, 7-3) in a Section 2-A victory over Beth-Center (2-10, 0-9). Brynn Kirby, Rylei Rastoka and Ella Miller also scored for Waynesburg.

West Allegheny 5, Trinity 0 – Chloe Hart scored a hat trick and Addie Roberts and Andrea Hamilton each added a goal as West Allegheny (9-6, 5-5) blanked Trinity (0-10, 0-8) in Section 4-3A. Alicia Alwine recorded the shutout for West A.

West Mifflin 10, Brownsville 1 – Jada Downs, Caroline Chelosky and Mia Noone each had a hat trick to lead West Mifflin (6-6, 3-5) to a Section 4-2A victory over Brownsville (0-13, 0-8).

Field hockey

Penn-Trafford 2, North Allegheny 1 – Mack Keenan and Rilie Moors scored for Penn-Trafford in a nonsection matchup against North Allegheny. Sophie Grafton scored the only goal for the Tigers.

Pine-Richland 9, Norwin 0 – Jessica Albertson scored a hat trick and Georgia Rottinghaus had three assists to lead Pine-Richland to a Section 3A matchup with Norwin.
