James Quinn and Nathan Kline scored to lead Avonworth to a 2-1 victory over Quaker Valley in Section 4-2A boys soccer Tuesday night. Rowan Carmichaels had an assist for the Antelopes (8-2-1, 7-1), who handed the Quakers (8-3, 7-1) their first section loss of the year. Nick Allan scored for Quaker Valley.

Beaver 8, Mohawk 0 – Kyle Carlsen had a hat trick and added an assist to lead Beaver (5-4, 5-3) past Mohawk (3-7, 3-5) in Section 4-2A. Anthony Furda had two goals and an assist, Seth Kullen scored twice, and Caleb Kullen also found the net.

Bentworth 10, Greensburg Central Catholic 0 – Aiden Murray had a hat trick, Ryan Colbert and John Scott each scored a pair, and Dillan Colbert, Ryan Moessner and Billy Moyer added a goal each for Bentworth (10-1, 6-1) in a Section 2-A shut out of Greensburg Central Catholic (3-7, 3-4).

Bethel Park 2, Trinity 1 – Luke Yimin scored the overtime winner and Evan Chichwak also had a goal to lead Bethel Park (9-1-1, 8-0-1) past Trinity (6-3, 6-3) in Section 3-3A.

Burrell 2, Springdale 0 – Jayson Ireland and Calio Zanella scored and Ryan Croushore recorded the shutout as Burrell (8-1, 6-1) beat Springdale (7-2, 6-2) in a battle for first place in Section 3-A.

Butler 1, Seneca Valley 1 – Andrew Lucas scored for Butler (8-2-2, 6-2-1) in a Section 1-4A draw with Seneca Valley (8-0-3, 6-0-3).

Carlynton 7, Chartiers-Houston 1 – Austin Naman recorded a hat trick, Connor Hart added two goals, and Mateo Carrasco and Gabe DiPietro scored for Carlynton (7-4, 4-2) in a Section 4-A victory over Chartiers-Houston (1-11, 0-6).

Charleroi 7, California 0 – Arlo McIntyre scored a hat trick while Dylan Klinger, Jacob Chambers, Landon Barcus and Bryce Large each found the net once as Charleroi (10-0, 6-0) blanked California (3-7, 1-5) in Section 2-A. Nathan Mazon recorded the shutout for the Cougars.

Deer Lakes 5, Jeannette 0 – Jake Orseno had two goals and an assist, Gabe Daily converted a penalty and Collin Rodgers and Keegan Landsberg also scored to lead Deer Lakes (9-1, 8-0) past Jeannette (7-4, 5-4) in Section 2-2A. Wesley Boyle recorded the shutout.

East Allegheny 1, West Mifflin 0 – Ryan Rupert converted a penalty and Dustin Harrier recorded the shutout as East Allegheny (8-1-1, 7-1-1) got past West Mifflin (3-10, 3-6) in Section 1-2A.

Elizabeth Forward 3, Steel Valley 2 – Carson Ruffing scored the game-winning goal to lift Elizabeth Forward (6-3-1, 5-3-1) past Steel Valley (2-10, 1-8) in Section 1-2A. Ethan Childers and Will Sinay also had goals for Elizabeth Forward. AJ Karstetter and Andy Tenney scored for the Ironmen.

Freedom 3, Neshannock 0 – Jordan Delon scored a pair of goals to lead Freedom (4-5, 3-5) past Neshannock (4-4-2, 2-4-1) in Section 1-A.

Greensburg Salem 10, Leechburg 0 – Drezden Gesalman had a hat trick and Brandon Rodriguez scored twice to lead Greensburg Salem (4-7, 3-6) to a Section 2-2A win over Leechburg (0-8, 0-8). Grady Rizzo, Jonas Harkcom, Tobyn Anderson, Henry Weiman and Anderson De La Cruz also scored.

Hampton 5, Indiana 0 – Coleman Docherty had two goals and Luke Fiscus added a goal and two assists to lead Hampton (9-1-1, 7-0-1) past Indiana (3-6-1, 3-4) in Section 1-3A. Xavier Ware had a goal and an assist and Oliver Spinola also scored.

Kiski Area 4, Highlands 2 – Nate Witt had a hat trick, Austin Beck also scored and Phil Harris dished out three assists to lead Kiski Area (3-4-1, 3-2-1) past Highlands (2-9, 0-8) in Section 1-3A. Sam Norris and Cainen McCann scored for the Golden Rams.

Knoch 2, Freeport 0 – Aedan Smith and William Schwalm scored for Knoch (6-7, 6-3) in a Section 2-2A win over Freeport (3-7, 3-6).

Mars 5, Armstrong 1 – Max Davis scored twice to lead Mars (7-3-1, 5-2-1) past Armstrong (3-6-1, 2-5-1) in Section 1-3A.

Montour 3, Central Valley 2 – Jaxon Camp scored all three goals for Montour (8-2, 8-1) in a Section 2-3A win. Joseph Skibinski and Jack Dobronz scored for Central Valley (6-4-1, 4-4-1).

Mt. Lebanon 1, Canon-McMillan 0 – Victor Slack scored the winning goal, assisted by Ben Bowen, to lead Mt. Lebanon (5-6-1, 5-3-1) past Canon-McMillan (5-5-1, 5-3-1) in Section 2-4A.

Mt. Pleasant 4, Washington 0 – Aiden Johnson scored twice, Luke Rivardo had a goal and an assist, Ryan Karfelt also scored and Jacob McGuinness had the shutout as Mt. Pleasant (8-2, 8-1) beat Washington (4-8, 4-5) in Section 3-2A.

Norwin 14, Hempfield 0 – Daniel Maddock had a hat trick and Rick Zappone, Alex Brown and Carson Zadylak scored two goals apiece to lead Norwin (9-2, 8-1) past Hempfield (0-10, 0-8) in Section 2-4A. Ian Natale, Owen Christopher, Logan Plitcha, Cam Ash and Dylan Moyer also scored.

Penn Hills 10, McKeesport 0 – Mack Byrnes and Chase Delehenty recorded hat tricks as Penn Hills (4-6-1, 2-6-1) blanked McKeesport (0-10, 0-8) in Section 4-3A.

Peters Township 7, Allderdice 0 – Alex Parise and Nathan Froelich each scored two goals while Blake Gabelhart, Cam Glass and Jeven Kelly also found the net as Peters (7-3, 6-3) shut out Allderdice (1-8, 1-7) in Section 2-4A. Aaron Peterson recorded the shutout for Peters.

Plum 6, Franklin Regional 2 – Eli Westchak and Travis Kodman each had a goal and an assist to lead Plum (11-1, 9-0) past Franklin Regional (7-4, 6-3) in Section 4-3A. Gage Adinolfi, Jonathan Aristyl and Brady French also scored and Tristin Ralph added a pair of assists for the Mustangs.

Ringgold 2, Connellsville 1 – Oliver Pucell and Izaiah Wilson scored to lift Ringgold (9-2, 7-2) past Connellsville (5-7, 3-6) in Section 3-3A.

Riverview 2, St. Joseph 1 – Freshmen Carson Bodnar and Kyle Schuetz scored and coach Mickey Namey recorded his 100th victory as Riverview (3-7, 2-6) beat St. Joseph (0-9, 0-7) in Section 3-A. Luca DiCola scored for St. Joseph.

Serra Catholic 1, Brentwood 0 – AJ Mejalli scored the lone goal and Tony Fisher made five saves for the shutout as Serra Catholic (8-1, 6-0) beat Brentwood (1-7, 1-5) in Section 4-A.

Seton LaSalle 4, Bishop Canevin 0 – Tyler Kovalcik scored a hat trick and Humberto Lopez added a goal while Nick Cherry recorded the shutout for Seton LaSalle (8-1-1, 5-1) against Bishop Canevin (3-8, 2-4) in Section 4-A.

Shady Side Academy 12, Derry 1 – Amir Awais had a hat trick as Shady Side Academy (8-1, 7-1) defeated Derry (2-9, 2-7) in Section 2-2A.

Thomas Jefferson 3, Laurel Highlands 1 – Brayden Miller, Jake Shoemaker and Owen Householder scored for Thomas Jefferson (9-1-1, 7-1-1) in a Section 3-3A defeat of Laurel Highlands (4-7, 2-7).

Trinity Christian 3, Aquinas Academy 0 – Luke Kost scored a pair of goals and Judah Schafer also found the net for Trinity Christian (6-1, 5-1) in a Section 3-A win over Aquinas Academy (4-6, 2-6).

Upper St. Clair 5, Baldwin 1 – Charlie Bacdayan scored a pair of goals and Liam Burlovic, Liam Park and Ben Murtough each added a goal for Upper St. Clair (10-1, 8-1) in a Section 2-4A win over Baldwin (3-9, 1-8).

West Allegheny 5, Ambridge 2 – Mike Bohley had a pair of goals and Andy Cosnek, Anthony Mimna and Aaron Bouch also scored for West Allegheny (3-6, 3-4) in a Section 2-3A victory against Ambridge (1-11-1, 1-7-1).

Girls soccer

Allderdice 1, North Hills 0 – Anisha Willis scored the winning goal, assisted by Maddie Schneider, and Esme Offner recorded the shutout as Allderdice (4-5, 3-5) beat North Hills (0-10, 0-8) in Section 1-4A.

West Mifflin 15, McKeesport 0 – Jada Downs scored six goals and Caroline Chelosky added five as West Mifflin (5-4) topped McKeesport in a nonsection match.

Girls volleyball

Albert Gallatin 3, Connellsville 0 – Jocelyn Ellsworth had six digs, 16 assists, one ace and two kills, Bella Bergman had 12 digs, Mia Myers had 10 assists and Leah Myers added 12 kills for Albert Gallatin in a sweep of Connellsville in Section 3-3A.

Beaver 3, Ellwood City 0 – Chloe List had nine kills and 10 digs and Kailyn Connelly had 12 kills as Beaver took all three sets against Ellwood City in a Section 1-2A match. Jaedyn Brown had a career-high 10 kills and two aces and Zoe Ringer had 31 assists for the Bobcats.

Burgettstown 3, Union 2 — Kaitlyn Nease had 12 kills and 10 blocks and Burgettstown twice rallied from a set down to win in Section 1-A. Peyton Mermon dished out 13 assists and Layla Sherman and Martin Whyte each had five aces.

California 3, Geibel 0 – Azzy Colditz had seven kills, eight assists and three aces to lead California to a Section 2-A win. Ava Bojtos added eight assists and seven aces, Rakiyah Porter had eight aces and four digs, Nina Conte recorded five aces and three kills and Raegan Gillen had three aces and three kills.

Canon-McMillan 3, Bethel Park 0 – Natalie Carr had 13 kills and nine digs, Abby Tucker added 10 kills and three blocks, and Josie Carter had 15 assists to lead Canon-McMillan to a Section 2-4A win over Bethel Park. Olivia Gross had 12 assists and Julia Murdy added 12 digs for the Big Macs.

Central Valley 3, New Brighton 0 – Bella Flinchum had nine kills and four blocks while Rowan Zilian had five aces for Central Valley in a Section 4-2A win. Chloe Rizer had nine digs, Jenna Alaksin had six kills, Alaya McKenzie had two aces and Sundi Fazio had 15 assists for New Brighton.

Franklin Regional 3, Kiski Area 2 – Hadley Regelski had 11 kills and Sophia Reitz added 16 kills as Franklin Regional beat Kiski Area in Section 5-3A. Brooke Feorene had 24 digs and five aces for the Panthers.

Frazier 3, Mapletown 0 – Molly Yauch had 21 digs, Allie Monack had 11 assists and seven kills and Gracen Hartman had 22 assists and eight kills as Frazier swept Mapletown in a Section 2-A match. Bri Ashton had 18 digs, three kills and two aces for the Maples.

Freeport 3, Burrell 0 – Alaina Whitlinger had 14 kills and Sydney Selker added five kills and 17 service points to lead Freeport to a Section 5-2A win. Grace Beach handed out 22 assists, Autumn English added four kills and four blocks, and Leah Schrecongost had five kills, two blocks and 15 service points.

Hampton 3, Woodland Hills 0 – Allison Schepner had four aces and five kills, Avery Koontz had three aces and two assists and Lilly Muczinski had four aces, four digs and 22 assists to lead Hampton to a sweep of Woodland Hills in Section 1-3A.

Hempfield 3, Shaler 1 – Zoey Hopkins had 20 assists, Preslee Horchak had 18 assists and four aces and Ashley Hosni had 12 kills and 18 digs for Hempfield in a Section 3-4A win over Shaler. Lauren Howard had 11 kills and Sarah Podkul had 24 digs and four aces for the Spartans.

Knoch 3, New Castle 0 – Sierra Mock had eight kills and Sabrina Schlott added five kills while Karlee Buterbaugh had 10 service points as Knoch swept a Section 4-3A match against New Castle.

North Allegheny 3, Seneca Valley 1 — Jamie Frisco had 12 kills and Marin Dunaway added 10 as North Allegheny defeated Seneca Valley in a battle of unbeaten teams in Section 1-4A. Molly Robertson had 10 digs, 22 assists, seven kills and three aces for the Tigers.

Southmoreland 3, Brownsville 0 – Taylor Doppelheuer had 15 kills and six blocks and Makayla Etling had six kills as Southmoreland stayed unbeaten with a Section 3-2A win. Skyler Gates had 14 kills and four blocks and Mackenzie Wade added 17 assists and 14 digs for Brownsville.

Girls golf

WPIAL championship – Peters Township sophomore Ellie Benson shot a 1-over par 73 at Diamond Run Golf Club in Sewickley on Tuesday to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the Class 3A tournament.

The second and final round is set for Thursday, Oct. 5 at Diamond Run.

Benson was especially strong on the front nine, carding a 3-under 32. Elizabeth Forward’s Mya Morgan is in second with a 75, followed by Oakland Catholic’s Paige Meyers at 79.

Eden Christian sophomore Pearl Lundgren shot an 83 to take the lead in the Class 2A tournament. Neshannock’s Sophia Covelli is two strokes back at 85. Greensburg Central Catholic’s Alayna Stawovy is third at 91.
