Anthony DiFalco recorded a hat trick for the second straight game to lead No. 1 Franklin Regional (3-0, 1-0) to a 3-0 victory over No. 4 South Fayette (2-1, 0-1) in Section 4-3A boys soccer Thursday.

Penn-Trafford 3, Latrobe 1 —Nathan Schlessinger scored twice off free kicks to lead Penn-Trafford (1-2, 1-0) over Latrobe (0-2, 0-1) in Section 3-4A boys soccer. Tyler Pisarek opened the scoring for Penn-Trafford. Jacob Horner scored for Latrobe.

Woodland Hills 3, Hempfield 2 — Woodland Hills (2-0, 1-0) edged Hempfield (1-2, 0-1) in Section 3-4A.

Seneca Valley 3, North Allegheny 2 — Zach LaValle scored the game-winning goal with 1 minute, 37 seconds left to lead No. 2 Seneca Valley (2-1, 1-0) past No. 3 North Allegheny (2-1, 0-1) in Section 1-4A.

Plum 1, Norwin 1 (2 OT) – AJ Koma scored a second half goal off an assist from Luke Gildea to help Plum tie No. 4 Norwin in Section 3-4A action at Mustangs Stadium. Both squads are now 3-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in section play.

Fox Chapel 7, Shaler 0 — Charlie Smith and Eli Yofan notched two goals apiece as Fox Chapel (2-0, 2-0) rolled to a Section 1-3A win at Shaler (0-3, 0-2). The victory followed Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Pine-Richland. David Merriman, Nate Lazzara and George Tabor all scored for the Foxes.

Belle Vernon 10, Uniontown 1 — Daniel Sassak scored four goals as Belle Vernon (4-0, 2-0) secured a Section 3-3A win over Uniontown (0-4, 0-1). Niko Apodiakos and Tyler Kovatch scored twice. Sassak leads Belle Vernon with 10 goals in four games.

Kiski Area 7, Armstrong 3 – The Cavaliers (1-2, 1-1) ran away on the scoreboard against Armstrong (0-3, 0-2) in a Section 1-3A matchup. Owen Zimmerman netted two goals for Kiski, and Tyler Ciuca tallied a goal and an assist. Maddox Anderson made five saves for the Cavaliers.

Ringgold 7, Greensburg Salem 0 — Frankie Lowstetter scored a hat trick and added four assists for Ringgold (1-2, 1-0) in a Section 3-3A victory over Greensburg Salem (0-3, 0-1).

Deer Lakes 7, Valley 1 – Ryan Hanes tallied his first varsity hat trick, and Ronan Renter added a pair of goals as the No. 3 Lancers remained undefeated in Section 2-2A. Scott Rothrauff and Ryan Rodgers added goals for Deer Lakes (2-1, 2-0). Michael Sullivan provided three helpers, and AJ Dormer also assisted on a goal. Valley fell to 0-2.

Burrell 5, Derry 1 — Ryan Wurzer netted a pair of goals to help Burrell (2-2, 1-1) earn a Section 2-2A win over Derry (0-2, 0-2). Noah Kleckner, Jacob Guerrini, and Carson Ley scored a goal apiece. Nick Kariotis had two assists.

Shady Side Academy 5, Leechburg 0 — Hazem Hamda scored twice for two-time defending WPIAL Class AA champion Shady Side Academy (2-0, 2-0) in a Section 2 win over Leechburg (1-2, 0-2). Sam Farner added a goal and two assists for the Indians.

Freeport 2, Mt. Pleasant 2 (2 OT) — Isaac Wetzel scored the tying goal with less than three minutes remaining and Freeport (2-0-1, 1-0-1) earned a draw at Mt. Pleasant (1-0-1, 1-0-1) in a Section 2-2A game. Hunter Hardin had a goal and an assist for the Yellowjackets and Luke Heider made seven saves. For Mt. Pleasant, Lucas Toohey scored two goals, Luke Hauger and Ryan Temple added assists and John Menefee made five saves.

Riverview 2, Carlynton 1 — Senior Joey Flanick tied the score late in the first half on a free kick and added the game-winner midway through the second half to lift the Raiders (2-0, 1-0) in Section 3-A. Nick O’Toole tallied an assist for Riverview, and Mark McClelland made five saves to help preserve the win. Carlynton was defeated for the first time after three wins to start the season. It opened section play Wednesday with a 2-1 home win over Springdale.

Greensburg Central Catholic 8, St. Joseph 0 — Greensburg Central Catholic (2-1, 2-0) shut out St. Joseph (1-2, 1-1) in Section 2-A.

Brentwood 9, Monessen 3 — Brentwood (1-0, 1-0) topped Monessen (0-4, 0-1) in Section 4-A.

Springdale 7, Vincentian Academy 0 — Ephrain Duku scored twice and had an assist for Springdale (1-1, 1-1), which cruised to a Section 3-A win over Vincentian Academy (0-2, 0-2). Michael Mitchell, Liam Dale, Duncan Caltagarone, August Tabacheck and Caleb Simmons had one goal for the Dynamos.

Girls soccer

Valley 3, Jeannette 0 — Domenica Wolfe had a pair of goals to lead Valley (1-1) to a nonsection win over Jeannette (0-3). Bealaja Montgomery also scored for the Vikings.

Field hockey

Penn-Trafford 2, Latrobe 0 — Emma Little scored twice in a minute, first off a penalty corner then off an assist from Nina Bowling, to lead Penn-Trafford past Latrobe in a rematch of last year’s WPIAL final.

Boys golf

Greensburg Central Catholic 222, Yough 243 — Daniel McMaster shot a 39 to lead Greensburg Central Catholic (5-4, 5-2) to a Section 2-AA victory. Logan Coshaharek shot a 42 to lead Yough.

Penn-Trafford 192, Greensburg Salem 204 — Alex Turowski shot a 2-under 34 to take medalist honors in a Section 1-AAA victory for Penn-Trafford (2-2). Ryan Nalevanko shot a 36 for Greensburg Salem (3-5, 1-4).

Riverview 229, Jeannette 295, Valley 337 — Jack Harden shot a match-low 43 and Riverview (9-0, 6-0) continued its unbeaten start with a win in a Section 1-AA tri-match at Green Oaks Country Club. Daniel Donatucci shot 44 for the Raiders and Richie Lyons finished with a 46. Alex Vickers shot a team-best 52 for Jeannette and Ben Aftanas shot 52 for Valley.

Frazier 233, Mt. Pleasant 239 — Carson Kirshner took medalist honors with a 43 as Mt. Pleasant (6-1, 6-1) suffered its first Section 2-AA loss. Elyse Elliott led Frazier (5-2, 4-2) with a 44.

Girls golf

Greensburg Central Catholic 173, Mt. Pleasant 232 — Meghan Zambruno was medalist, shooting a 34, to lead Greensburg Central Catholic (4-0, 4-0) past Mt. Pleasant (1-3, 1-3) in Section 1-AA. Sarah Anthony led Mt. Pleasant with a 55.

Franklin Regional 212, Gateway 259 — Reilley Woehler was medalist, shooting a 50, to lead Franklin Regional past Gateway in Section 4-AAA.

Penn-Trafford 184, Norwin 212 — Lauren Barber shot a 38 to help Penn-Trafford over Norwin in Section 3-AAA. Jules Crosby shot a 44 for Norwin.

Girls tennis

Latrobe 5, Connellsville 0 — The doubles teams of Jen Pierce and Maya Jain and Avery Massaro and Julia Huczko didn’t lose a game to lead Latrobe (5-0, 4-0) in Section 1-AAA.

Penn-Trafford 5, Gateway 0 — Singles players Ruby Chen, Sarah Yamrick and Olivia Carrera and the doubles teams of Holly Monroe and Marissa Setzenfand and Lena Yuhas and Claire Hartung won in straight sets in a victory for Penn-Trafford (4-2) over Gateway in Section 1-AAA.

Norwin 5, Armstrong 0 — Ashley Pesarsick, Trinity Miller and Jenna Beach at singles and the teams of Sydney Pesarsick and Sadie Cuturilo and Isha Vyas and Jordan Napierkowski combined to lose just one game for Norwin in a Section 1-AAA victory.

Mars 4, Franklin Regional 1 — Hannah Yan won at No. 1 singles for Franklin Regional (1-4, 1-3) in a Class AAA nonsection loss to Mars.

Fox Chapel 5, Woodland Hills 0 — The Foxes kept their undefeated season alive. Carissa Shepard led the way with another win at No. 1 singles and Catherine Petrovich and Anna Ferris also earned wins. The pairings of Paige Theroet and Katie Voigt, and Dya Reddy and Mia Cody earned the wins at doubles.

Valley 4, Indiana 1 — The Vikings (6-0, 4-0) swept the singles matches and added a doubles victory in Section 3-AA. Madison Gatto, Casey Gatto and Aimee Johnson all won in straight sets at No. 1 through No. 3 singles, respectively, while Rylee Gatto and Eden Richey posted a straight-set victory at No. 1 doubles.

Girls volleyball

Freeport 3, Derry 0 — Freeport was dominant in its Section 5-AA opener against rival Derry. The Yellowjackets, No. 3 this week in the Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AA rankings, won 25-18, 25-20, 25-9. Leading the way for the Yellowjackets (1-0, 1-0), Isabella Russo produced eight kills, Lauren Lampus delivered seven kills with nine service points, Mackensey Jack recorded seven service points and five kills, and Maddie Clark assisted on 45 points and contributed nine service points. Derry, which opened with a five-set win over Deer Lakes on Tuesday, fell to 1-1.

Knoch 3, Hampton 0 — The Knights, the No. 1 team in this week’s Class AAA rankings, had no trouble with visiting Hampton in a Section 4-AAA sweep. Hannah Rowe and Skylar Burkett delivered 13 and nine kills, respectively, to help Knoch improve to 2-0. Ally Albert added 10 service points for the Knights.

Deer Lakes 3, Valley 0 — Cameron Simurda had five kills and 10 service points for Deer Lakes (1-1, 1-1) in a Section 5-AA win over Valley. The Lancers got back in the win column after Tuesday’s five-set loss to rival Derry. Renee Robson contributed 13 assists and 16 service points for Deer Lakes, and Madison Madine added four kills.

Leechburg 3, Springdale 0 — Ashley Grine had nine kills and seven blocks for Leechburg (2-0, 2-0) in a Section 4-A win over Springdale (1-1, 1-1). Maddie Ancosky added eight kills, Brenna Callahan had seven kills and Sky Raypush contributed 15 digs.
