In its first Eastern Conference matchup of the season, Frazier fell short against powerhouse Jeannette, dropping a 61-19 decision. The Jayhawks set the tone early, and momentum never swung back.

Jeannette struck first. After opening with a 10-yard run, quarterback Kymon’e Brown broke off a 68-yard touchdown run, juking defenders and tip-toeing down the sideline. The Jayhawks followed with a long drive capped by a 12-yard touchdown pass to go up 13-0 with just under three minutes left in the first quarter.

Frazier answered. With help from penalties, the Commodores moved the chains and got on the board when Derek Diamond barreled in for a 5-yard touchdown. That cut the deficit to 13-6, but Jeannette’s offense kept rolling.

Brown connected on quick passes before Powell stretched the lead to 20-6 on a drag route for another score. Diamond responded with a 44-yard run that energized the home crowd, but penalties stalled the drive. After a defensive stop, Frazier looked ready to chip away again.

Diamond refused to go down, powering through defenders on back-to-back runs. That set up a play-action pass from Brady Seacrest to Noah Bachinski in the end zone, trimming the margin to 20-13 with just over three minutes left in the half.

Then came the backbreaker.

Hunter Schaeffer returned the ensuing kickoff 65 yards for a Jeannette touchdown after Frazier attempted a squib kick. The Jayhawks capitalized again minutes later, as Brown returned a punt deep into Commodore territory and finished the drive with another rushing score. A failed fourth down by Frazier set up one more Jeannette touchdown before the half, sending the teams into the locker room with the scoreboard reading 40-13 Jayhawks.

Frazier came out of the break with some fight. Diamond strung together a series of runs and punched in his second touchdown to make it 40-19. But it was the last time the Commodores would score.

Jeannette added rushing touchdowns from Brown and Nick Mendoza, then capped the night with a defensive score on a fumbled toss. The mercy rule went into effect early in the fourth quarter.

Despite the loss, Diamond stood out. The senior running back carried 29 times for 202 yards and two touchdowns, breaking tackles and punishing defenders. He also added a 22-yard reception. Seacrest finished with 91 passing yards and a touchdown.

Frazier coach Tony Battaglini acknowledged the disappointment but stressed the bigger picture.

“We stress that this game is tough, because it’s six days of work, and you get to see the results on Friday night, and the next day you’re right back to it,” Battaglini said. “Focusing on being able to turn the page and refocus on the next game, regardless of the result. Just have to bounce back, and these guys have proven they’re capable of doing just that.”

He also praised Diamond’s effort.

“Derek is a huge part of our offense. He’s an absolute workhorse and he wants the ball every play, and that’s all you can ask for in a running back like him.”

Frazier (1-2, 0-1) will look to rebound next week when it travels to Clairton for another conference test.
