The stage is set for Jefferson-Morgan senior Gavin Teasdale and Ligonier Valley senior Robby Patrick.

The duo is chasing history as they try to become PIAA Class AA Southwest Regional champions Saturday at IUP's Kovalchick Conference and Athletic Complex.

Teasdale (35-2, 157-2) also set a school record for wins with a technical fall against Tussey Mountain junior Brady Villa, 15-0. He will face a familiar foe, Derry senior Shawn Broadway in the 126-pound final.

Teasdale broke the mark of 156 held by Brendon Howard.

Patrick (30-0) slid into the finals at 170 with a 10-0 win against Southmoreland senior Jaden Datz. He'll also face a familiar foe in Penn Cambria junior Derek Brown, who he defeated last week at the District 6 tournament.

The WPIAL advanced 38 wrestlers to the PIAA Class AA Championships in Hershey beginning March 8. The top six finishers in each weight class (14) advance to the state tournament.

There are four finals involving head-to-head matches between WPIAL wrestlers. They are Quaker Valley freshman Conner Redinger facing South Park freshman Joey Fischer at 106, Teasdale and Broadway, Mt. Pleasant senior Alex Miscovich and Ellwood City junior Donovan Chambers at 138 and South Side Beaver senior Joe Demor and South Fayette senior Mike Cusick at 145.

Other WPIAL finalists include Derry freshman Ty Cymmerman (120), Frazier sophomore Thayne Lawrence (152), Bentworth junior John Vargo (182), Freedom junior Bryson Miller (195), Derry junior Dom DeLuca (220) and South Side Beaver senior heavyweight Bishop McCoy.

DeLuca avenged his loss to Huntingdon senior Landon Fisher at the PIAA Team Tournament with a 3-0 win.

Fischer used a first period takedown to edge Elizabeth Forward sophomore Ryan Michaels, 2-1, in the 106 semifinal.

Cymmerman used a reversal in the third period to beat District 6 champion Byron Daubert, 4-3.

Miscovich got a late takedown to take down District 6 champion Jacob Powers of St. Joseph Catholic Academy, 6-5.

Cusick pushed the pace and picked up a penalty point in the third period to edge Southmoreland senior Tyler Griffiths, 5-4, at 145.
