Mohawk falls to Upper Dauphin in PIAA Class 2A title game

UNIVERSITY PARK — Winning pitcher Alexis Weaver lined a two-run single off opposing pitcher Trinity Voss’ right leg in the third inning, and District 3 champion Upper Dauphin held on for a 2-1 victory against Mohawk on Friday in the PIAA Class 2A Championship game.

Mohawk (18-3) was looking for its first state title in any sport. The Warriors were the fourth-place team from the WPIAL. It was Upper Dauphin’s first state title.

Voss, a sophomore, allowed three hits and struck out 15.

Mohawk scored in the fourth inning when Madison Shiderly doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Emilee Vargo.

Weaver also allowed three hits and struck out seven for Upper Dauphin (17-8), which won its last 13 games after a 4-8 start.
