Rain that made Friday night in Week eight interesting carried over into Saturday afternoon, making for a slow track at four of the five ‘natural surface’ sites around the WPIAL as grassy fields soon turned muddy and clean uniforms were not so much. But the late Autumn weather conditions made the afternoons and evening for these five standouts really stand out as we put a bow on the next to the last weekend of regular season high school football.

Dominic Fundy – Beth-Center

We see a lot of gaudy rushing numbers in these ‘spread offense’ days that are built on 42, 63, 27 yards gashes throughout the night. Dominic Fundy and his Beth-Center teammates went old school Saturday night in a Class 2-A Century Conference tilt against visiting Charleroi as he gained most of his yards with 5, 4, and 3-yards and a cloud of dust…errrr clump of mud. At water logged Beth-Center stadium, Fundy rushed for 219 yards and scored second quarter touchdowns on runs of 38 and 4 yards as the Bulldogs clinched a playoff spot with a 20-0 whitewash of the Cougars.

Stefon Adams – Northgate

Northgate’s magical season continued to burn bright Saturday afternoon thanks in part to The A-Team. Quarterback Stefon Adams connected on 9 of 16 passes for 290 yards and a pair of first quarter long touchdown tosses of 64 and 75 yards to Mike Allen, plus he scored on an 8-yard run while brother Surron also scored in a 14-point fourth quarter that proved to be the difference in the Flames 28-14 triumph over the Summit Academy Knights in a Class 1-A Big 7 Conference game in Herman, Pa.

Lamont Wade – Clairton

Remember when you were a kid in school and you always had half days prior to large breaks around the holidays and at the end of the school year. Saturday was a half day of sorts for Clairton senior stud running back Lamont Wade, who made the most of the first two quarters by rushing for 130 yards on only 8 carries with three touchdowns runs and a scoring reception as he became only the 6th rusher in WPIAL history to eclipse 6K on the ground for his career in the Bears 60-0 laugher over the host Riverview Raiders in a Class 1-A Eastern Conference game.

Jermaine Rodgers – Imani Christian

Imani Christian entered Week Eight on the outside looking in as far the as playoff picture in Class 1-A’s Eastern Conference as they suffered a couple of tough losses and were sitting with a 1-4 section record. But what a difference one game makes as IC now controls their destiny after beating Springdale thanks to Jermaine Rodgers’ two second quarter touchdowns on a 13 yard run and a, 11-yard scoring reception on a pass from Kenny Robinson as they Saints go marching on following an 18-6 victory over the visiting Dynamos.

Maleik Hemingway – Bishop Canevin

Bishop Canevin had already earned their asterisk and a trip on The Road to RMU coming into their home finale Saturday night, but the blue and white wanted to make sure this wasn’t their final game of the season at Dormont Stadium. In an effort to earn a home game in Round One, running back Maleik Hemingway ran wild, rushing for 230 yards and four touchdowns on runs of 33, 7, 2 and 20 yards as the Crusaders cruised to a 48-12 Class 1-A Eastern Conference victory over the Greensburg Central Catholic Centurions.
