MSA Sports Top Ten – WPIAL Football Seeding Predictions

We do it every year in an effort to help the cause. Sometimes our logic is considered by the powers that be, then again, sometimes our two cents is ignored. Everybody has an opinion in how the WPIAL Football Steering Committee should set up the brackets for the upcoming ride on the Highway to Heinz.

Once again to explain our mindset. The following is how we would seed the 64 playoff teams, NOT how we would rank them. You determine the top four in each class, then the other four teams that have a home game, then you start filling in the blanks to avoid conference teams playing each other in the opening round. For example, we have North Allegheny as the #7-seed in AAAA. If we were ranking all the teams, NA would be higher than #7, but in an effort to keep the Northern Eight Conference tri-champs Pittsburgh Central Catholic, Pine-Richland and North Allegheny in separate quadrants, the Tigers fall to #7.

The matchups in the opening round will be:
#16 at #1
#9 at #8
#13 at #4
#12 at #5
#15 at #2
#10 at #7
#14 at #3
#11 at #6

The REAL brackets are unveiled Monday night starting at 7:00pm ONLY here on the MSA Sports Network, your exclusive home for every WPIAL football postseason game.
