PIAA softball pairings: 4 all-WPIAL matchups in state quarterfinals

The WPIAL is guaranteed at least four softball teams in the state semifinals this season.

Thursday's PIAA quarterfinals will include four all-WPIAL matchups: Hempfield vs. Baldwin in Class 6A, West Allegheny vs. Albert Gallatin in 5A, Belle Vernon vs. Mt. Pleasant in 4A and Union vs. Monessen in A.

The four all-WPIAL matchups were split between Latrobe and Peters Township, according to sites and times announced Tuesday by the PIAA. Latrobe will host a doubleheader, while Peters Township hosts two games at the same time on separate fields.

Thursday's games

Class 6A

Hempfield vs. Baldwin at Latrobe HS, 3 p.m.

Latrobe vs. Nazareth at Carlisle HS, 3 p.m.

Class 5A

West Allegheny vs. Albert Gallatin at Peters Township HS, 2 p.m.

Thomas Jefferson vs. Interboro/String Theory Charter at Carlisle HS, 1 p.m.

Class 4A

Belle Vernon vs. Mt. Pleasant at Latrobe HS, 1 p.m.

Class 3A

Southmoreland vs. Hickory at Dubois City Park (Heindl Field), 2 p.m.

South Park vs. Phillipsburg-Osceola at St. Francis University, 4:30 p.m.

Class 2A

Mohawk vs. Cochranton at Moniteau HS, 2 p.m.

Class A

Monessen vs. Union at Peters Township HS, 2 p.m.

West Greene vs. McConnellsburg at Somerset HS, 4 p.m.
