For eight years they played the role of brides-maids as a close-but-no-cigar top five finisher. But now for the second straight year, Quaker Valley plays second fiddle to nobody after the Quakers earned a second consecutive MSA Sports Cup Class AA crown.
Quaker Valley earned 525 points, the second most of any WPIAL school behind North Allegheny, giving them a comfortable 195 victory over runner-up and five-time champion Shady Side Academy. Beaver finished third, Riverside fourth and Burrell fifth, with Freeport, Seton-LaSalle, Burgettstown, Washington and Beaver Falls rounding out the Double-A top ten.
The Quakers got off to a HUGE start in the fall by winning WPIAL championships in girls tennis and boys soccer while sweeping team gold in both the boys and girls cross-country championships. They added to their golden collection with a PIHL Class A championship in ice hockey and then won silver when the QV baseball team was the Double-A runner-up in the spring.
A model of consistency, Quaker Valley's 525 points beat their winning total from the 2011-2012 school year when they scored 520 points. The Quakers become the third school to repeat in Class AA joining Greensburg Central Catholic (2004 through 2006) and Shady Side Academy (2007 through 2011).
