Quips Cruise To 14th Win in PIAA Class AA Quarterfinals

The Aliquippa Quips continued their winning ways with an easy 51-15 victory over the District 9 champion Karns City Gremlins at Sarge Alberts Stadium in the PIAA Class AA quarterfinal round.

Aliquippa led 31-0 after one quarter and 44-0 at the half. The Quips had 333 rushing yards in the first half and scored on seven of their eight possessions in the half, while the defense held the Gremlins to mnus 6 yards rushing in the same period.

After forcing a three and out on Karns City's opening possession, Aliquippa drove down the field, paced by a Dravon Henry 46 yard run. Henry would score on a 6 yard touchdown, after Terry Swanson had a score negated by an assisting the runner penalty. Aliquippa added to the lead on defense, quarterback Tyler Kepple was tackled in the end zone by Khalil Seaburn to put the Quips up 10-0.

That lead lasted 42 seconds, as following the free kick, Swanson added an 8 yard run to put the Quips up by 17. Aliquippa scored on it's next two plays, Henry ripped off a 67 yard run, Jyier Turner went down the sideline for a 69 yard touchdown.

Karns City opened the second half with a good drive into Aliquippa territory as Dakota Mohney entered the game and picked up a first down on a 4th and 1 at midfield, the Gremlins rolled the dice on the next set of downs, this time coming up a yard short and gave the ball back to Aliquippa. Malik Shegog made it 3 for 3 as the quarterback sprinted down the sideline for a 60 yard touchdown and a 37-0 lead. Swanson added a 26 yard run with 3:25 left in the half, ensuring the mercy rule in the second half.

The Gremlins got on the board in the third quarter, Adam Whited took a screen pass from Kepple and went 22 yards for a touchdown, the Quips answered with Kaezon Pugh breaking a 64 yard run for a score. Kepple hit Zach Moore for a 5 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to round out the scoring.

Henry finished with 5 carries for 126 yards. Swanson carried 8 times for 78 yards. Pugh added 90 yards in the second half on 9 carries. The Quips posted 443 yards on the ground for the game, Shegog was 2-3 for 33 yards. Aliquippa is now 14-0 on the season and will meet the winner of Richland and Hickory in next week's semifinal, those two teams play tomorrow at 1 pm at Slippery Rock University.

Karns City finished with 78 yards rushing and 150 total yards for the game, the Gremlins finished at 10-4.
