Kaden Levy’s 39-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter gave Riverview a 50-0 lead, feeding the fire in what would become a dominant 64-14 win for the Raiders (3-2, 1-1) against Springdale (0-4, 0-1) on Friday night.
Levy had only three rushing attempts, but he racked up a game-high 86 yards and two touchdowns. Riverview dominated in the running game, utilizing multiple backs such as Rio Stotts (73 yards and a touchdown), Max Kraft (46 yards and two touchdowns), and Don Williams (36 yards and a touchdown) to accrue 331 yards on the ground.
“All the guys on our team are real dominant,” Levy said. “You know, going out on the field knowing we’re going to have some great plays; going out there and hit every hole as hard as we can.”
Said Williams: “I got confidence in my guys. I know our skill is always going to put in the work and do what we need to do to get the touchdown and get the yards and stuff like that. So I just really believe in us, and I know we are a good back team.”
To start the game, Riverview forced a Springdale three-and-out. On the first play of the Raiders’ drive, Miles Duncan didn’t gain any yardage, but a 12-yard run by Kraft set up the first points for Riverview. Connor Kmetz handed it off to Williams, who took it 26 yards to the end zone.
On the next defensive possession by the Raiders, Levy broke into the backfield and got a strip sack on Jackson Williams. The Raiders recovered and called Levy’s number on the first play of their next drive. Starting at the Springfield 32, Levy broke multiple tackles to get all the way down to the 2-yard line. In scoring position again, not even three minutes into the game, Kraft received the handoff and turned loose on the outside for the second touchdown of the game.
Facing a 14-0 deficit, Springdale went to the running game, but Corey Brooks mishandled the handoff and fumbled, giving Riverview the ball at the Dynamos’ 32.
In only four plays, the Raiders were back in the end zone, with the drive featuring an 11-yard run by Williams, a 3-yard pass completion to Stotts and a 20-yard touchdown run by Levy. By the midway point of the opening quarter, Riverview had built up a 21-point lead.
The Dynamos seemed to show some fight after a goal-line stand, forcing a turnover on downs at the end of the quarter. To start the second, though, Jordan Ricci was sacked in the end zone for a safety, igniting what would be a 29-point quarter for the Raiders. Kraft, Stotts, Levy and Miles Duncan would all put points on the scoreboard for the Raiders before the intermission.
Springdale was able to score its first points off a muffed kick return to start the second half. Brooks found the end zone on a 40-yard rush, and then Jack Pearro scored on the two-point conversion.
After the Raiders scored two more times, the game ended with a 31-yard touchdown by Springdale’s Will Fowler, bringing the final score to 64-14.
With the win, Riverview ended a two-game losing skid, while Springdale remains winless on the year.
Next week, the Raiders will have another Eastern Conference matchup against Greensburg Central Catholic.
Asked how his team can carry the momentum from Friday’s win into that matchup, Stotts said, “That’s a playoff game next week. We need that. We’re not going to back down like we used to. But this year is our year. We’re making the playoffs this year.”
