Hometown Softball Recap for Baldwin Highlanders – 04/16/2015
April 16, 2015
Rachel Hankin and Rachel Albert hit back-to-back solo home runs in the 6th inning, lifting Bethel Park (5-3, 4-1) to a 2-1 win over Baldwin (5-1, 4-1) on Wednesday night at Baldwin High School. The blasts were the lone blemishes for Highlanders' pitcher and Pitt-Greensburg recruit Jamie Schleicher, who allowed just four hits and struck out eleven batters in the complete game loss. Schleicher would retire the first eight Bethel Park batters, give up a single to Hankin in the 4th inning and then retire eight more batters in a row, before Hankin, the nine-hitter in the Blackhawks' lineup, would launch a ball over the right field wall. Moments later, Bethel Park's leadoff hitter, Albert, would follow up with a shot of her own over the center field fence.

Scholastic Notebook – 04/10/2015

Beaver Falls High School is trying to make sure the school’s 1975 baseball team won’t be forgotten. At a baseball game in two weeks, the ’75 team that won a WPIAL title will be honored before a Beaver Falls game. No one is quite ready to call this year’s Beaver Falls team championship caliber, but the Tigers are doing a pretty good job of grabbing some attention for themselves. It’s still extremely early in the WPIAL baseball season, but Beaver Falls is 3-0. That might not sound like much, but considering the past few years, it is a gigantic step forward for Beaver Falls.

The best distance runner in WPIAL history might not compete in track this season because of an illness and injuries. That leaves the door open for someone. Madeleine Davison has her foot in the door. Davison is a junior at North Allegheny. While Shaler’s Brianna Schwartz was running her way to records last year, Davison was often close behind, sometimes just a second or two away. Now, Davison could gain a reputation as one of the best distance runners in the WPIAL in recent history.

2014 WPIAL BASEBALL REVIEW
March 25, 2015
Wow, what a magical season 2014 turned out to be on the district baseball diamonds. While Brendan McKay had an historic season to cap off a career for the ages, he and his Blackhawk teammates had to settle for silver after losing in the Triple-A finals to a scrappy West Allegheny team. But that wasn't the only surprising championship run as Seneca Valley has a postseason run for the ages to win another district baseball crown, this time from the #16 and final seed in Quad-A. Here is a look back at the 2014 WPIAL Baseball season with final regular season standings along with WPIAL and PIAA playoff results.  FINAL 2014 WPIAL REGULAR SEASON BASEBALL STANDINGS:

Here is a look back at the 2014 WPIAL Softball season with final regular season standings along with WPIAL and PIAA playoff results. FINAL 2014 WPIAL REGULAR SEASON STANDINGS:

PIHL Notebook – 2015 MSA SPORTS ALL-ICERS
March 23, 2015
Welcome to another edition of “PIHL Notebook,” your weekly companion to “The PIHL Power Play” on the MSA Sports Network. With the 2015 Penguins and Pennsylvania Cup champions crowned, there is just one more order of business we must attend to. It’s time once again to unveil the annual “All Icers” teams as voted on by the MSA Sports Network staff. This year, we take a different approach. Rather than name all-inclusive first and second teams, we have selected one group of six players for Class AAA, Class AA, Class A and Division II. This gives more kids a chance to be recognized, which is the whole point of this exercise after all. So, let’s light the lamp on the final 2014-15 edition of “PIHL Notebook.”
