WPIAL softball pairings: 4 defending champions draw No. 1 seeds

Four defending WPIAL champions received No. 1 seeds in the softball playoff brackets revealed Thursday.

Hempfield in Class 6A, West Allegheny in 5A, Frazier in 2A and West Greene in A earned the top spot after winning the title a season ago. The other top seeds went to Mt. Pleasant in Class 4A and South Park in 3A.

The four-round tournaments start with first-round games Monday and Tuesday. The finals are May 30-31 at Seton Hill University.

Cal (Pa.) was unable to host the softball championships this season because its field is under renovation.
