The Valley Vikings captured their first ever PIAA softball title by edging Manheim Central Friday in the Class AAA Finals at Penn State University. Two WPIAL teams have broken the state baseball title drought. After two years of nothing but silver both Riverside and Serra Catholic were golden in the PIAA finals. The Riverside Panthers got another big hit from Ryan Finnegan to claim their third PIAA title with a 5-2 win over the Salisbury Township Falconsin the Class AA title game at Medlar Field. Six teams playing consolation games for three spots in the 2011 PIAA Softball Playoffs which begin on Monday, June 6th. The second trip was better for the Neshannock Lancers, who were no-hit in last years title game against Serra Catholic. 2011 was a better experience as Tuesday night at Consol Energy Park, Neshannock won the WPIAL Class A title with an 11-1 victory over the Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers in six innings.
