2010 WPIAL Schedules: Boys Cross-Country
Can you say Five-Peat? That is what the Tigers of North Allegheny accomplished last fall in winning their fifth straight WPIAL AAA Boys Cross Country Championship. The Tigers finished with 92 points followed by Baldwin with 109 then North Hills with 158 then Plum with 196. In the Class AAA individual competition, North Allegheny's Ryan Gil placed first with a 15:30.

CTK 2010 – WPIAL A BLACK HILLS Conference Preview

Over the last 35 years, the WPIAL Class A football scene has been dominated by two conferences, the Big 7 and the Eastern Conference. From 1975 through 2006, the districts champion came from one of those two conferences. However the tide has turned over the last three years as the Black Hills Conference has laid the claim to being home of the WPIAL Class A champs.

Allegheny Conference teams won't have to "get real" so fast this season. Over the past two seasons, the Allegheny has consisted of 10 teams, which meant all teams started playing conference games the first night of the season. There were no non-conference games. Everything was real from the get-go.

CTK 2010 – WPIAL AAAA NORTHERN SEVEN Conference Preview

Erie McDowell is back in the Northern Seven Conference. This time for real. In 2006 and 2007, McDowell played a conference schedule, but McDowell could not qualify for the WPIAL playoffs because it was still a District 10 team. The name of the game in girls golf in 2009 was repeats. Nadia Luttner won a second consecutive WPIAL girls golf championship. The Fox Chapel junior became only the sixth girls golfer to win back-to-back individual golf crowns. In team girls golf, Shady Side Academy captured the 2009 WPIAL Girls Team Golf title.

2010 WPIAL Schedules: Girls Tennis
Last fall, Ronit Yurovsky of Plum and Tanya Timko of Chartiers-Houston captured WPIAL Girls Singles Tennis titles while Olivia Heim and Taylor Perz of Pine-Richland and Susie Soltis and Madeline Leo of Greensburg Central Catholic captured WPIAL Girls Doubles Tennis Gold. In Girls Team Tennis, Peters Township and Sewickley Academy were crowned WPIAL champions in 2009.

Virginia Wins 2010 PONY League World Series

Ellwood City Looking For Basketball Coach
The Ellwood City School Board accepted the resignation of Jason Bumblis on Thursday. Bumblis served the last three seasons at Lincoln High, after coming to Ellwood City from OLSH. The Wolverines were 17-53 in the last three seasons, including 7-15 in 2010, as the Wolverines were alive for a playoff spot until the final day of the regular season.
