Winchester Thurston’s Thorpe commits to Howard

Winchester Thurston senior Gia Thorpe, a 5-foot-8 guard who won consecutive WPIAL basketball titles, announced her commitment Monday to Howard University.
The Trib 10 selection averaged 20.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 5.1 steals and 1.2 blocks for a team that finished 20-6 this season. She posted a triple-double in the Class A final with 36 points, 13 rebounds and 10 steals to defeat West Greene, 52-41, at Petersen Events Center.
Howard, an NCAA Division I program in Washington D.C., competes in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Pirates (12-18, 8-8) finished fifth in the MEAC last season.
