Mount Lebanon and Hampton won the very first WPIAL boys lacrosse championships two years ago in 2009. After missing out last season, the gold rush continued for both the Blue Devils and Talbots in 2011. After a year as runner-up, Riverside is back on top of the WPIAL Class AA Boys Team Track & Field hill. The Panthers beat out Washington, South Fayette and Freedom Thursday afternoon at West Mifflin High School to win a fourth WPIAL championship in the last five years. Aliquippa and Pitt wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin was the only former WPIAL football player taken in the First Round of the 2011 NFL Draft on Thursday night. The 2011 WPIAL softball season is set to begin on Friday, March 25th. Two district teams are defending STATE champions in Mount Lebanon and Chartiers-Houston, while the Blue Devils, Montour Spartans, Valley Vikings and Vincentian Academy Royals now begin defense of their WPIAL titles, even though the Vikings have moved up from Class AA to Class AAA.
