USC Dethrones NA Boys while North Allegheny Girls Still Queens of the WPIAL AAA Pool

While there will be swimming gold heading back to North Allegheny High School, the Tigers could not double their pleasure. The North Allegheny girls won their third straight WPIAL Class AAA team swimming title, but the boys string of five straight was snapped Friday afternoon at Trees Pool. With Samantha Pickens and her three year stranglehold on the WPIAL Girls Class AAA diving title gone to the University of Arizona, there was opportunity today at Pine-Richland High School. Running for 4,000 career yards isn't as rare as it used to be. Forty-seven players have done it in WPIAL history, and 40 of them have reached the mark since 1990. But when North Allegheny's Alex Papson reached 4,000 yards last week, it was a rare feat, at least when you consider the competition.
