This week’s Trib HSSN wrestler of the week is Franklin Regional sophomore Carter Dibert.

The Panthers’ 106-pounder finished third in the WPIAL last season and is making an early statement this season.

The sophomore followed up his impressive championship at the season-opening Eastern Area Invitational Wrestling Tournament by claiming another at the King of the Mountain Tournament on Saturday at Central Mountain High School.

In four matches, Dibert didn’t surrender a single point, registering a first-period pin, major decisions of 12-0 and 14-0 and a 15-0 technical fall. He was one of three individual champions for Franklin Regional at the tournament.

Other nominees:

Allejandro Herrera-Rondon, Seneca Valley, sophomore: It was a clinical performance for the defending PIAA champion at the King of the Mountain Tournament. The 106-pounder opened with a 35-second pin and followed with four more clinical victories — three by decision and one by major decision — to claim the title. He surrendered two points in his five bouts.

David McElravy, Indiana, senior: With the Indians trailing Fox Chapel, 36-33, entering the final bout of their Class AAA, Section 3B match, McElravy came up with a pin of Steven Cano to lift his team to the victory. A WPIAL qualifier as a sophomore, McElravy missed last season.

Dayton Pitzer, Mt. Pleasant, freshman: Seeded fifth in the 182-pound bracket at the Panther Holiday Classic at Mt. Pleasant, Pitzer ended up as the champion. The freshman upset top-seeded Mason McCready of Hollidaysburg, 5-1, in the semifinals. His four other bouts at the tournament ended in falls, including a 1-minute, 32-second pin of Penn Cambria’s J.C. Smychynsky in the final.
