Trib HSSN wrestling team of the week: Seneca Valley takes 2nd at KOM

This week’s WPIAL wrestling team of the week is Seneca Valley.

The Raiders showed the strength of their individual wrestlers at the annual King of the Mountain tournament at Central Mountain High School on Friday and Saturday, with two champions and seven more medalists lifting the Raiders to a second-place finish in the team standings behind Council Rock South.

Lightweights Dylan Chappell at 113 pounds and Alejandro Herrera-Rondon at 120 did the heavy lifting by winning individual championships. Drew Vlasnik (138 pounds) and Nick Montalbano (152) finished as runners-up, while Antonio Amelio, Davin Beahm, Jason Geyer, Chanz Shearer and Hunter Swedish placed.

Other nominees:

FRANKLIN REGIONAL: After beginning its Section 1-AAA schedule with a victory over Penn-Trafford, the Panthers had a strong performance at the King of the Mountain tournament at Central Mountain High School, finishing fifth. Carter Dibert, Colton Camacho and Mason Spears won individual titles.

KISKI AREA: The Cavaliers won the inaugural Armstrong Winter Classic, with eight of their wrestlers posting unbeaten records in the round-robin tournament. Kiski Area wrestlers registered pins in 36 of their 52 bouts.

NORTH ALLEGHENY: The Tigers edged Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy for first place at the Panther Holiday Classic at Mount Aloysius. Dylan Coy, the team’s 106-pounder, won an individual championship, while six other NA wrestlers medaled.
