Valley added to WCCA 7-on-7 tournament, schedule changed

Valley has joined the field as a late addition to the 8th annual Westmoreland County Coaches Association 7-on-7 football championship set to begin at 9 a.m. Thursday at Latrobe High School.

The tournament now has 13 teams so Mt. Pleasant, Latrobe and Hempfield will field two teams apiece, varsity and junior varsity.

The “A” bracket consists of Derry, Valley, Southmoreland, Jeannette, Greensburg Salem, Norwin and Franklin Regional. The three teams that will double up will serve as the eighth team in the pool.

Bracket “B” has Hempfield, Mt. Pleasant, Burrell, Penn-Trafford, Yough and Latrobe.

Games will be played on three campus turf fields: Rossi Field, the main football stadium; along with the baseball and softball fields at nearby Graham-Sobota Field.

Rossi Field will be divided in half to accomodate two games at a time. The softball field will be used for junior varsity games througout the day.

The championship is set for around 2 p.m. on the main field.

Hempfield has won the last two titles. Norwin and Jeannette are expected to push for the win this year.

9 a.m. — Rossi Field: Valley vs. Derry; Southmoreland vs. Latrobe JV; Baseball field: Jeannette vs. Greensburg Salem; Softball field: Norwin vs. Franklin Regional

9:30 a.m. — Rossi Field: Hempfield vs. Mt. Pleasant; Burrell vs. Penn-Trafford; Baseball field: Yough vs. Latrobe

10 a.m. — Rossi Field: Southmoreland vs. Jeannette; Norwin vs. Greensburg Salem; Baseball field: Hempfield JV vs. Valley; Softball field: Franklin Regional vs. Derry

10:30 a.m. — Rossi Field: Yough vs. Burrell; Latrobe vs. Mt. Pleasant; Baseball field: Hempfield vs. Penn-Trafford

11 a.m. — Rossi Field: Valley vs. Franklin Regional; Greensburg Salem vs. Mt. Pleasant JV; Baseball field: Jeannette vs. Norwin; Softball field: Derry vs. Southmoreland

11:30 a.m. — Rossi Field: Latrobe vs. Burrell; Hempfield vs. Yough; Baseball field: Mt. Pleasant vs. Penn-Trafford

Noon — Rossi Field: Greensburg Salem vs. Derry; Latrobe JV vs. Jeannette; Baseball field: Franklin Regional vs. Southmoreland; Softball field: Valley vs. Norwin

12:30 p.m. — Rossi Field: Penn-Trafford vs. Burrell; Latrobe vs. Hempfield; Baseball field: Burrell vs. Mt. Pleasant
