Go to any pro or college sporting event and hang outside the stadium long enough and you are sure to hear, “Who Needs Two?” Well now with Week One of the WPIAL football season in the books, there is no need to wonder because we have two…two standout performers from a wet and chilly Saturday.

Aaron Thompson – Clairton

Speaking of two, it took three-time defending WPIAL Class 1-A champions Clairton two quarter to realize the season was underway, but when they awoke, it was with a vengeance. After a scoreless first half, the black and orange came to life BIG in the second half as Aaron Thompson led the way with 140 yards rushing and four touchdowns as the Bears blanked the host Bishop Canevin Crusaders 32-0 in a Eastern Conference opener.

Jeddy Young – Western Beaver

Western Beaver has a unique system on offense where they will hold up one lantern if Jeddy Young is playing quarterback and two lanterns if they want him to switch to running back. Either way, he can do damage as he proved in the Class 1-A Big 7 Conference opener Saturday when he completed 10 of 14 passes for 143 yards and three touchd0wns while also rushing for 177 yards and scoring on a 9-yard run on what proved to be the winning touchdown as the host Golden Beavers held on for a 27-22 win over the Summit Academy Knights.
