There were six WPIAL teams in action on the Eighth Saturday of the 2014 high school football season and only one of them will be enjoying a ride on the Highway to Heinz in two weeks. While it has been a season to shine for defending Class A champion Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic, the days other two road warriors, Mohawk and Riverview also had reason to be beaming on an overcast, chilly day. Here are the standouts from Saturday.

Cayne Yakubic – Mohawk

Mohawk will be home for the playoffs for the ninth consecutive season, but there is hope for the future thanks to the ‘Pinball Wizard’. Dimunitive sophomore running back Cayne Yakubic bounced off would be tacklets all afternoon as he rushed for 89 yards on 14 carries and scored on touchdown runs of 36, 5 and 5-yards to lead the Warriors to a 42-14 triumph in the much at the Summit Academy against the Knights in a Class AA Midwestern Conference tilt.

P J Fulmore – Cardinal Wurhl North Catholic

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic senior running back P.J. Fulmore placed himself into the record book on Saturday night at Dormont Stadium and it didn’t take long. The Duquesne University recruit carried the football the first four plays of the game, gaining 52 yards put him over the four thousand yard rushing mark in his career. On the night, he rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns in the Trojans 48-7 victory over the Bishop Canevin Crusaders that wrapped up the Class A Black Hills Conference title.

Tyler Nigro & Ray Robair – Riverview

While the is no playoff berth in Riverview’s immediate future, a rare winning record this century is still alive thanks to a pair of seniors and the passing of Tyler Nigro and the running of Ray Robair.  Nigro hit on 6 of 12 passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns in the first half while Robair rushed for 165 yards and scored on runs of 2 and 73 yards in the second half as the Raiders improved to 4-4 overall with a 33-12 Class A Eastern Conference victory over the host Wilkinsburg Tigers.
