Chicks Picks – Week Eight – 2014
October 16, 2014
Welcome to Week 8 of the high school football season. The Stretch Run continues this week as we near the end of the regular season.  Each year at this time, Chick’s Picks likes to celebrate the Stretch Run by seeking out the latest fitness trend and planning a group activity involving it with all of Team MSA.  This year, her activity of choice was Aerial Yoga. Aerial Yoga is a new way to practice traditional yoga, which involves the use of fabric hammocks suspended from the ceiling.  Participants use the hammocks to explore fluid, floating poses, rather than classic mat yoga poses.

If Braydon Toy isn’t the smallest quarterback in the WPIAL, he ranks down there with the tiny guys. But you will find big statistics in this little Toy. Toy is only 5 feet 6 inches tall, but has been gigantic for the Kittanning Wildcats. He became the starter only last season and has started 16 games. But he went over 4,000 yards offense last week. Toy now has 4,116 yards. This season, he has completed 64 of 106 passes for 1,198 yards and also rushed for 473 yards on 60 carries. He has helped Kittanning to a 4-2 record. A year ago, Toy helped Kittanning to its first undefeated regular season since the 1970s. He finished 102 of 138 for 1,629 yards. He also rushed for 816 yards on 114 carries.

WPIAL & City League Week 7 Friday Football Scores
“Bend and Stretch, reach for the stars. There goes Moon and here comes Mars.” OK, so maybe I took some liberties with that children’s song just a bit, but the point was that it’s Week 7 and it’s time for the MSA Sports ‘Stretch Run’. The Stretch Run is the final three weeks of the regular season that will help decide conference champions, home field advantage, playoff positioning and postseason berths. Some games are obvious big contests, while others have key elements to them, if not for both teams, than at least one team. Nearly every game in the district has meaning and those with the most meaning can be heard here on…The Network. Here are ALL of the final results from the seventh Friday of the high school football campaign.

Chicks Picks – Week Seven – 2014
October 9, 2014
Welcome to Week 7 of the high school football season. Part of being a successful high school football prognosticator is always knowing what your competition is up to.  While studying season statistics of those very rivals, Chick’s Picks noticed a few thing that were rather bothersome.  She decided to schedule a meeting with The Boss to air her frustrations. “Boss, I want to start off by saying that I really appreciate everything you’ve done for me over the last 15 years.  But, this week, I noticed that my biggest rivals are spreading their wings, so to speak,” Chick’s Picks said. The Boss replied, without looking up from his classic hunt and peck typing technique, “Chick’s, what is it that you want now?”

The final third of the regular season gets underway Friday night here on the MSA Sports Network. Several teams have already clinched playoff spots and the stretch-run will be a lot about positioning yourself for a good seed and a playoff push towards Heinz Field. A tip of the cap to South Fayette quarterback Brett Brumbaugh from BGH and after spending a Friday night at Neil Brown Stadium a word on the Clairton Bears, and that word is …WOW!

Scholastic Notebook – 10/03/2014

Maybe you’ve heard the quote “Down goes Frazier, Down goes Frazier.” It is a line from legendary sports announcer Howard Cosell, describing boxer Joe Frazier after he went down from a George Foreman punch in a famous 1973 bout. In WPIAL football this year, it is “Up goes Frazier, Up goes Frazier.” Things haven’t been this good in Perryopolis (where Frazier is located) since 10 years after that Frazier-Foreman fight. The Frazier Commodores are 5-0 and have a showdown tonight with Beth-Center for first place in the Tri-County South Conference. The winner likely will win the Tri-County South title. Frazier has not started a season 5-0 since 1983, when the school made it all the way to the WPIAL Class A championship game before losing to Western Beaver.
