Three exits have been passed and now the 2012 journey on the Highway to Heinz leads directly to the North Shore. Defending champions North Allegheny in AAAA, Aliquippa in AA and Clairton in A are finals bound and are one win away from a three-peat (NA), back-to-back (Quips) and the rare five-peat (Clairton). The Countdown to the Road to Hershey continues with one week before the start of the state high school football playoffs. Final Four Friday is in the books on the Highway to Heinz, but the five other Western Pa districts also are into their gridiron postseason. Veteran Coach Jerry Holzhauser Steps Away From Laurel Football
Jerry Holzhauser has retired as head coach of the Laurel Spartans football team after nine seasons. Holzhauser racked up a 54-35 record over that time, including five playoff berth, including a 2009 trip to the semifinals.Laurel finished 5-4 overall this season and 4-4 in the Big Seven Conference, behind Rochester, Sto-Rox, Neshannock and Union, all four advanced to the WPIAL quarterfinals with Neshannock and Sto-Rox still alive in Friday's Semifinals.Before becoming the head coach, Holzhauser was an assistant to George Miles. He plans on relaxing and travelling, Holzhauser is also an avid hunter.No timetable has been set for choosing the coach's replacement.

Mayo Steps Down at Shenango
November 6, 2012
The Shenango Wildcats are looking for a new football coach. Ryan Mayo annouced his resignation after 6 years at the helm. The Cats finished 3-6 this season.Mayo was hired in March of 2007, he compiled a 21-34 record at Shenango and did not make the playoffs in his term. The Wildcats were 7-18 at home over the same period and will carry an 8 game home losing streak into 2013.The resignation will not become official until the Shenango school board meets on Monday.

Here are the players that shined the brightest on the first night on the grand stage.Tyler Roth - Mount LebanonThere was a lot of excitement about Butler making the WPIAL football playoffs for the first time since 1998. However their stay in the postseason was short and not so sweet thanks to the aerial attack by Tyler Roth and Mount Lebanon. Roth hit on 20 of 27 passes for 288 yards and a pair of touchdown tosses as the Blue Devils blew away the Golden Tornado 31-7 in a Class AAAA opening round matchup.Thomas Woodson - Gateway
