It doesn’t matter if there is security or a police presence at Ringgold football games. The key for fourth-year coach Matt Humbert is he always has had the Law on his side.Humbert has enjoyed success in his four years as Ringgold’s coach, and one of the keys is there has been a Law under center. Quad Law played quarterback for the Rams in Humbert’s first two years when the Rams were a combined 17-4. Now, Law’s younger, Nico, is the Rams’ QB.They are turning Ringgold into a Law school.After going only 4-6 last season, Ringgold is 3-1 this year heading into a big game tonight at West Mifflin. We hit the midway point of the 2013 WPIAL football regular season on the fifth Friday of the campaign. This also marked the final Friday in September, although it felt more like the first Friday of the ninth month with temps in the 70's around kick off time. Welcome to Week 5. Throughout her travels, Chick’s Picks sees many fascinating sights. It is not every day, though, that she runs into a giant rubber duckie—especially here in Pittsburgh. In case you have missed the news, The Rubber Duck Project is making its way to our fine city this weekend.Chick’s Picks decided to do a bit of research on the project. When you settle in and listen to the halftime show featuring Don Rebel and Professor White this Friday, we will have reached the exact halfway point of the 2013 WPIAL football season. It’s true, it goes by faster than a Pittsburgh Steelers offensive possession. A historic week in the WPIAL saw the end of the Nation’s longest winning streak, overtimes, dramatic wins, upsets and the like. The real winner on the fourth Saturday of the WPIAL football season was Mother Nature. For the first time in this 2013, she played a key role in the three games that were played Saturday afternoon with a steady, drenching rain. You could say by comparison, the fourth Saturday of the high school football season was a bonanza of action compared to the third Saturday of 2013. Sure, there were only three afternoon contests on the WPIAL football slate, but that is triple the excitement from what we saw from last weeks schedule. This was also the first battle lost to Mother Nature of this young football season with steady rain throughout the afternoon action. Now that Shai McKenzie’s football career is over, it’s time to reflect on how good of a running back he was at Washington High School. Going strictly by statistics, it’s not an overstatement to say McKenzie was one of the best of all time in the WPIAL.McKenzie’s senior season is finished because of a torn ACL sustained in last Friday’s game against Charleroi. He was scheduled to have surgery Friday.McKenzie finished his career with 4,856 yards on 493 carries and 77 touchdowns. The yardage is the 15th best in WPIAL history. Welcome to Week 4. Chick’s Picks has a dear friend at the MSA Sports Network who loves nothing more than to spend his free time attending bizarre fitness classes. For months, Mike Azadian has been strongly encouraging Chick’s Picks to attend a hot yoga session with him. Nothing about this idea sounded even the slightest bit intriguing to Chick’s Picks, but after a stressful week, she decided to give it a try.Chick’s Picks was right—she found little stress relief stretching her body in ways it did not belong. To make matters worse, her trusty crystal ball could not withstand the heat of the 105-degree studio. Week four brings with it the time to separate the wheat from the chaff in the WPIAL football season. You might get to this week with a pretty nice looking record based on some favorable scheduling. Time is running out on teams dodging the upper echelon of their section. Sooner or later , you are going to run into a playoff caliber football team, if it is sooner, it will be this week, if it is later it will be next.
