Welcome to Week 3 of the high school football season. Against her better judgment, Chick’s Picks decided to participate in a fantasy football draft in late August. Monumental big time match-up in AAAA this week, winner of this one becomes a big-time favorite to end up at Heinz Field in late November. The conditions on Friday night were much better than they were a week ago for the district lid-lifters, allowing for more focus by the players and a lot more points scored by teams throughout the WPIAL. Sorry, no Sunday action the rest of the year (unlike last week), so Saturday brought the curtain down on the second week of the WPIAL and Pittsburgh City League high school football schedule. Week Two of the WPIAL and Pittsburgh City League season kicked off Friday with cooler temperatures compared to the sauna-like conditions of Week One. Conference play began in two more conference in Class AAA and one Class AAAA conference game. Another battle of top ten teams in AAAA, I guess we can also hope that 1 vs 10 this week; will be better than 2 vs 7 was at Upper Saint Clair last Friday. The curtain rose for most WPIAL and Pittsburgh City League teams on Friday night. Then it was time for ten more district teams to lace up their spikes for the first time in 2011. Three games took place under the hot sun in the afternoon while the evening haze was the backdrop for two more scholastic gridiron contests.
