PIHL Penguins Cup Recaps – Monday, March 10th

A couple of dandies got the puck rolling on the PIHL's Semifinals Week as the top four seeds in Class A took to the Robert Morris University Island Sports Complex center stage Monday night. Defending champ Quaker Valley was on the ropes, but could not be knocked out by Freeport while upstart Thomas Jefferson will continue their memorable season after eliminating Mars. Baldwin Beats Harbor Creek for PIHL Open Class Championship
The Baldwin Highlanders (22-2-1) claimed their fourth PIHL Championship in school history and first in the Open Class as they jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 7-4 victory over the Harbor Creek Huskies (22-2-0) at the RMU Island Sports Center Olympic Arena on Wednesday night. Anthony Alaimo and Brian Dee each scored two goals in the game for the Highlanders, which finish the season unbeaten in their last 20 games and on a 13-game winning streak. Baldwin got off to a hot start, as Anthony Alaimo scored just 47 seconds into the game on a deflection of a Max Milan centering pass. Baldwin led 2-0 after the first period, getting a late goal from Milan in the final minute of the period.

Baldwin & Harbor Creek Win PIHL Open Class Cup Titles
February 28, 2014
It took Baldwin over three months, but they finally were given the chance to avenge their lone loss of the 2013-2014 season and boy, did they capitalize on it. The top-seeded Highlanders (21-1-1) used a smothering defensive effort and aggressive forecheck to take down #3 Hempfield, 5-1, in the PIHL Open Class Northeast Conference Championship Game at Robert Morris University's Island Sports Center on Thursday night. Baldwin's leading scorer, Anthony Alaimo, kept up his blistering pace, recording two goals and two assists in the win. It was Alaimo, in fact, that opened the scoring at the 10:55 mark of the first period on a wrist shot that trickled through the pads of Spartans' goalie Garrett Ciaramella.

2014 PIHL Open Class Playoffs Update

Two champions were crowned Thursday night at the RMU Sports Complex as Harbor Creek won the Southwest Cup title while Baldwin won the Northeast Cup crown with convincing 5-1 victories each. Blackhawk Cougars Hockey Playoff Semifinals recap for 2/25/14
At the Morgantown Ice Center, Kienan Battin knocked home a loose puck past Cory Steinle in overtime to push the Mohawks past the Cougars and into the PIHL Open Class Southwest Division championship game on Thursday night. Battin recorded his second hat trick of the playoffs, he leads the Mohawks with 6 goals during the post season and 34 overall for the season.

Blackhawk Cougars Hockey Playoff Quarterfinals recap for 2/23/14
The Blackhawk Cougars were a much better road team during the regular season than at home, Sunday night was no different in the opening game of the PIHL Open Cup playoffs as the 5th seeded Cougars knocked off the 4th seeded Trojans at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.  Robert Swinderman scored twice and goalie Cory Steinle stopped 28 of 30 shots to advance to the next round on Tuesday night.

Blackhawk Cougars Hockey Game recap for 2/19/14

At the Beaver County Ice Arena in PIHL Open class competition, the Blackhawk Cougars with a chance to play for a home playoff game lost in a tough battle with McDowell 5-3. A win by the Trojans sends the Cougars on the road Sunday February 23rd at Mercyhurst College at a time to be determined in the first round of the Northeast section playoffs.With the loss Blackhawk is the number 5 seed, McDowell the number 4.
