NA Wins Second Straight Quad-A Title In Overtime Thriller Over USC

North Allegheny’s Mack Leftwich scored the game winner in overtime and the Tigers defense held Upper St. Clair scoreless to win their second straight WPIAL Quad-A Championship with a 28-21 victory. Leftwich carried twenty times for 117 yards and threw for 148 yards on 10 of 16 to keep the Tigers on the Road to Hershey in defense of their PIAA title as well.

Montour Finally Golden After Knocking Out Knoch for AAA Gold
The Montour Spartans won their first WPIAL title since 1964 as the Spartans handled the Knoch Knights 42-14 at Heinz Field in the McDonald’s Class AAA Championship Game. Julian Durden ran for 159 yards and four touchdowns as Montour goes to 10-3 and advances into the state playoffs to meet Grove City, a 33-0 winner over Erie Cathedral Prep last night.

CTK 2011 – WPIAL AAAA FOOTHILLS Conference Preview

The Foothills has become the not-so-golden conference in Class AAAA. With North Allegheny ending the Northern Seven championship drought in 2010, attention turns to the Foothills Conference. McKeesport won WPIAL gold in 1994 and again in 2005, however the last Foothills Conference team to win WPIAL gold other than those two Tigers teams was...ready for this...Connellsville in 1991.

PIAA Executive Director Set to Retire in 2012

PIAA Executive Director Brad Cashman has announced that the upcoming 2011-2012 school year will be his last. He announced his retirement effective July of 2012. Cashman has led the state governing body for nearly 20 years since taking over as PIAA Executive Director in 1993.

PIAA Forced to Adjust to New State Legislation
July 21, 2011
A new state house bill is forcing the PIAA to make changes to its transfer rule or else. The law demands that students be permitted to transfer to another school district if budget cutbacks cause their sports team to disband. The PIAA has until August 8th to amend their transfer rule which officials say should not be a problem.
