A new state house bill is forcing the PIAA to make changes to its transfer rule or else. The law demands that students be permitted to transfer to another school district if budget cutbacks cause their sports team to disband.

The PIAA has until August 8th to amend their transfer rule which officials say should not be a problem.

House Bill 1352 was passed on June 28th after the state legislature passed a new budget with massive statewide school funding cuts.

After the transfer rule is updated students will be allowed to transfer only if their school drops the sports program they participated in primarily for budgetary reasons and not due to any other causes. The student must have been a member of the abolished team the previous year and must file a waiver request with the PIAA.

PIAA officials are meeting this weekend to work on the new adjustment.
