While the 'Stretch Run' continues in high school football, we begin the district boys and girls soccer playoffs while preparing for the WPIAL girls volleyball playoffs this week here on the MSA Sports Network. Hometown Volleyball Match Recap – West Allegheny Indians – 10/10/2014
The West Allegheny Indians (6-4) kept their playoff hopes alive Thursday by beating the McKeesport Tigers (0-9), winning in sweep set fashion, 25-5, 25-5 and 25-11. The Indians are preparing for playoff action and they looked the part in this contest. With scoring runs of 7, 11, 12 and a string of 4-0 runs throughout the first two sets. Thus, staging the final match clinching set to win the WPIAL AAA Section 5 clash.Hometown Volleyball Match Recap – Brentwood Spartans – 10/10/2014
Carlynton (7-3) got a massive fight from underdog Brentwood (3-7), but prevailed 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-15) in a WPIAL Class A Section 2 volleyball showdown on Thursday night at Brentwood High School. With the win the Cougars clinched a WPIAL playoff birth and eliminated Vincentian Academy from a possible postseason appearance. Brentwood was hurt early by a number of unforced errors. The Spartans committed 15 unforced errors in the opening set, but were still able to grab a 13-12 lead thanks to five kills from Sophomore Hannah Livingston. The Blackhawk Cougars JV won their game Tuesday night and the Cougars Varsity couldn't carry the torch as they fell at home to Beaver 3-0. After getting up early 14-9 Blackhawk saw that lead diminish and the first game ended in an extra volleyball loss 29-27 and the momentum was on Beaver's side. Beaver took that momentum and rode it into the second game winning 25-19. Up 2 games to 0 the Bobcats rode that wave and again playing extra volleyball in game 3 winning 26-24 to secure the victory. Hometown Volleyball Match Recap – West Allegheny Indians – 10/02/2014

West Allegheny used a multitude of point streaks and limited errors to easily defeat non-section foe Central Valley, 3-0, Thursday night in Imperial. The Indians, who are 4-4 this season in AAA Section 5, won all three sets by scores of 25-5, 25-11 and 25-18 over the Warriors, who have a 7-1 record in AA Section 2. Junior Lauren Long and Sophomore Allison Koester paced the Indians with 12 kills each, tied for a match high. Long also added a match high four service aces. The first set was the easiest and most impressive for West Allegheny, as the Indians used scoring runs of 3-0, 5-0, 8-0 and 6-0 to cruise to the 25-5 victory. "In high school volleyball, it's tough to win any set, against any team, 25-5," said West Allegheny head coach Brian Begor.
Hometown Volleyball Match Recap – Freeport Yellowjackets – 10/02/2014
The Freeport girls’ volleyball team remained perfect on the season, as the host Yellowjackets defeated section rival Knoch in straight sets on Thursday. Freeport, which improves to 8-0 in Class AA Section 4, captured the victory 25-9, 25-15, 25-14. With the setback, the Knock Knights fall to 7-2 in section play, with both losses coming at the hands of the Yellowjackets. Freeport immediately jumped out to a lead in the opening set, as the Yellowjackets used a 9-0 run behind the serving of Maddie Christy to gain the advantage. The Yellowjackets would not relinquish control, as they cruised to the first-set win.
Hometown Volleyball Match Recap – Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers

The Chartiers-Houston girls’ volleyball team notched a critical victory for its playoff bid on Tuesday, as the host Lady Buccaneers captured a straight-sets win over Burgettstown. All three sets were tightly contested, as Chartiers-Houston triumphed 25-20, 25-22, 25-23 to improve its record to 6-2 in Class A Section 6 play. Meanwhile, the Lady Blue Devils fall to 3-5 in section play, and are currently outside the playoff picture. In the opening set, the Buccaneers controlled the play early, but the Blue Devils rebounded to take a 16-13 advantage. Senior libero Kassie Kesneck keyed the comeback for Chartiers-Houston, though, as her potent served helped spark an 8-0 run for the Bucs.
Hometown Volleyball Match Recap – Blackhawk Cougars – 10/01/2014
The Blackhawk Cougars continued on the road towards a possible section title with a 3-1 victory over the Laurel Spartans in WPIAL Section 1-AA girls volleyball action last night in Chippewa Township. The win moves Blackhawk to 8-1 in section play, trailing only Hopewell in the standings at the start of play on Tuesday. Those two teams could meet for the section title on October 16th. Blackhawk took the first game by a 25-18 score, pulling away in the later stages with the help of senior Nikki Beatty with some key points to allow the Cougars to gain a 21-13 advantage which they would not relinquish.Hometown Volleyball Match Recap – Avonworth Antelopes – 09/29/2014

In Hometown Volleyball action at Avonworth High School, the home standing Antelopes lost to the Butler Golden Tornados in a non section game by a 3-0 match score. Avonworth with only four seniors, and 3 juniors is a very young team and it showed on the court Monday night. Avonworth led 1-0 in game one and the match was close thru ten points at 5-5. But the Tornado's took over from there jumping out to a 16-8 lead. The Antelopes would come back and cut the lead to 19-14 with inspired play, but Butler was too strong and finished off the game scoring six of the last 10 points to win 25-18.This Week on the MSA Sports Network – 09/28/2014

Hometown Volleyball Match Recap – South Side Rams
In Hometown Girls Volleyball action at South Side High School in Hookstown, PA., the Our Lady Of Sacred Heart Chargers defeat the home standing Rams by a 3-0 match score and remain undefeated at 7-0 in single A section 4. South Side falls to 5-2 with their only two section losses coming at the hands of the Chargers.
Hometown Volleyball Match Recap – Freeport Yellowjackets – 09/25/2014
The Hornets made the trek from Hermitage, PA and District 10 take face the defending WPIAL Class AA Champion Yellowjackets at “The Hive” in Freeport and the Jackets continued their strong 2014 campaign with a 3 game victory (25-16, 25-22, 25-14) over Hickory. Freeport jumped out to leads in all three games in the match including a 2-0 start in Game 1.
