High school roundup for Dec. 18, 2018: Mt. Lebanon boys take down No. 2 Butler

Mt. Lebanon used a strong second-half effort to earn an 87-60 nonsection victory over Class 6A No. 2 Butler on Tuesday night.

Sean Loughran had 23 points, and Hayden Mitchell and Blaine Gartley each scored 14 for the Class 6A No. 5 Blue Devils (4-1), who held a 46-26 edge in the second half.

Devin Carney had 14 points, and Ethan Moore added 12 for the Golden Tornado (5-1).

Penn Hills 69, Gateway 51 — Tyree Spencer scored 23 points, and Marshall McArthur added 17 as No. 3 Penn Hills (4-1, 1-0) won in Section 1-5A. The Indians used a 25-12 run in the third quarter to seal the win.

Moon 79, West Mifflin 48 — Donovan Johnson’s 24 points lifted No. 2 Moon (5-0, 2-0) to a Section 2-5A victory.

Trinity 61, Montour 58 — Noah Johnson’s 3-pointer at the buzzer lifted Trinity to a Section 2-5A win. Michael Koroly scored 24 points, including six 3-pointers, for Trinity (1-4, 1-1).

Hampton 72, Indiana 58 — Ben Ringeisen had 31 points and Josh Winek added 21 as Hampton (3-2, 1-1) rolled to a Section 3-5A victory.

New Castle 64, Blackhawk 61 — Demetris McKnight had 23 points to guide No. 2 New Castle (5-1, 2-0) to a Section 2-4A victory.

Quaker Valley 56, Beaver 44 — Adu Thiero had 16 points, and Danny Conlan added 15 as No. 1 Quaker Valley (5-0, 1-0) won in Section 2-4A.

Neshannock 68, Riverside 57 — Jake McCormick scored 33 points to lead Neshannock (5-1, 1-0) to a Section 1-3A win. Brian MacMurdo tallied 33 points for Riverside (3-2, 0-2).

New Brighton 66, Ellwood City 46 — Chris Gerello had 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Payne Jackson added 13 points and 12 rebounds as New Brighton (4-1, 1-1) won in Section 1-3A.

Keystone Oaks 66, Carlynton 43 — Frank Stumpo had 27 points to lead Keystone Oaks (3-1, 2-0) to a Section 2-3A win.

Shady Side Academy 57, Steel Valley 50 — In Section 3-3A, Grady Munroe had 21 points, and Colm O’Connor added 18 to lead Shady Side Academy (3-3, 2-0) to victory. Camden Polak had 30 points for Steel Valley (2-4, 0-2).

McGuffey 70, Frazier 59 (OT) — CJ Cole had 47 points to lead McGuffey (4-2, 2-0) to a Section 4-3A victory. Justin Novak and Elijah Santoro each had 21 points for Frazier (2-4, 1-1). Novak hit a 3-point shot with three seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime.

Laurel 71, Burgettstown 57 — Luke Barker had 24 points, Marcus Haswell added 17 and Sam Haswell scored 16 as Laurel (2-2, 1-1) picked up a Section 3-2A win.

OLSH 72, South Side Beaver 48 — In Section 3-2A, Daren DiMichele had 20 points, and Rico Tate added 18 to lift No. 2 OLSH (5-0, 2-0) to victory. Jake McDougal scored 18 points for South Side Beaver.

Cornell 85, Western Beaver 47 — Kaden Divito had 31 points, and Zaier Harrison added 25 to lift No. 5 Cornell (4-2, 1-1) to a Section 1-A win.

Pine-Richland 77, Westinghouse 28 — Kyle Polce had 16 points, and Greg Shulkosky added 14 as Class 6A No. 4 Pine-Richland (3-2) won a nonsection game.

Shaler 84, Carrick 68 — Mekhi Reynolds had 21 points, and Justin DeSabato added 20 to lead Shaler (5-1) to a nonsection win.

Greensburg Central Catholic 44, Imani Christian 30 — Geoff Helm scored 19 points, and Joel LoNigro added 15 as Greensburg Central Catholic earned a Section 3-A win.

The Centurions (3-2, 1-1), who led 23-14 at halftime, rebounded after back-to-back losses to St. Joseph and Derry.

Franklin Regional 58, Armstrong 34 — Logan Summerhill had 12 points, and Johnny O’Toole added 11 as No. 4 Franklin Regional (6-1, 2-1) won in Section 2-5A.

The Panthers, who opened on a 16-4 run, bounced back after their first loss to Mars on Monday.

Southmoreland 53, Beth-Center 45 — Cade Richter had 23 points, and Riley Comforti added 11 as Southmoreland (3-3, 1-0) earned a Section 4-3A win. The Scotties made a 17-11 run in the third quarter to pull ahead.

Derry 43, Connellsville 41 — John Kerr had 11 points, and Aidan Bushey added nine as Derry (4-1) won a nonsection game. The game was tied 14-14 at halftime.

Bethel Park 49, Hempfield 47 — Ryan Meis hit a shot at the buzzer to lift Bethel Park (5-1) to a nonsection win over visiting Hempfield. Meis finished with 15 points, and Alex Mullen had 17. Drew Coletta had 11 points, including seven in the fourth quarter, for the Spartans (4-2).

Yough 69, Waynesburg 66 — Jarett Bach had 28 points to lead Yough (3-2) to a Section 1-4A victory. Gamal Marballie had 15 points, and Josh Obradovich and CJ Waldier each had 12 for the Cougars.

Lucas Garber scored 15 to lead Waynesburg (3-2).

Apollo-Ridge 64, Riverview 61 (OT) — Keighton Reese made seven 3-pointers on his way to a 24-point performance, leading Apollo-Ridge to an overtime win over Riverview in a Section 1-2A game.

Jacob Fello added 19 points and Klay Fitzroy scored 16 for the Vikings (1-5, 1-1), who snapped a 14-game losing streak that dated to last season.

Noah Black scored 26 points for Riverview (3-1, 1-1), and Gideon Deasy added 13.

Kiski Area 54, Plum 49 Kiski Area used a 12-0 run to start the second half to take control en route to snapping a 14-game section losing streak with a Section 3-5A victory over Plum (1-5, 1-1). Kyrell Hutcherson had 13 points to lead the Cavaliers (2-5, 1-1), and Ryne Wallace and Nick Smith scored nine points apiece. Connor Moss had 19 points and Ian Dryburgh scored 10 for the Mustangs.

Leechburg 85, Trinity Christian 42 — Jake Blumer led four Leechburg players in double figures with 20 points in Section 3-A win at Trinity Christian (0-2, 0-1). Dylan Cook scored 17 points for the Blue Devils (4-1, 2-0). John Miskinis had 15 points and Dalton Hamm scored 10.

St. Joseph 55, Propel Andrew Street 41 — Matt Arvay connected on five 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 21 points and Daniel Fábregas added 12 as St. Joseph downed Section 3-A rival Propel Andrew Street (4-2, 0-2).

Cheswick Christian Academy 51, Calvary Chapel 23 — The Chargers had three players score in double figures and Jerry Vargo scored a game-high 14 points to help lead Cheswick Christian Academy top Southwestern Christian Athletic Conference rival Calvary Chapel. Andrew Drake scored 11 points and Jesse Radvansky added 11 for Cheswick Christian (1-5, 1-0).

Burrell 49, South Allegheny 44 — Andrew Bigler scored six of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter to help lead Burrell past Section 3-3A rival South Allegheny. Logan Bitar added 11 points for Burrell (2-5, 1-1). Ethan Kirkwood led South Allegheny (2-4, 0-2) with 13 points.

Deer Lakes 55, East Allegheny 30 — Brad Perrotte led Deer Lakes (4-2, 2-0) with 15 points in a Section 3-3A victory. Zac Herbinko added 11 points for the Lancers, which held East Allegheny (1-4, 0-1) to three points in the second quarter. Jack Hollibaugh scored 10 points.

Beaver Falls 71, Highlands 63 — The Rams trailed 37-25 at the half and shot 11 of 31 from the foul line as Class 4A No. 3 Highlands fell to nonsection rival Beaver Falls. Luke Cochran led Highlands (1-2) with 22 points and Korry Myers chipped in with 17. Gage McKelvey scored a game-high 28 to lead Beaver Falls (2-3).

North Hills 75, Fox Chapel 68 — Arnold Vento scored 23 points, but Fox Chapel (3-2) couldn’t overcome a 17-point halftime deficit in a nonsection loss at North Hills (3-2). Ryan Kerr scored 14 points for the Foxes, and Sam Brown scored 12. Jordan Alrbight had 28 points to lead North Hills, and Logan Marshalek scored 19.

Sto-Rox 71, Springdale 49 — The Vikings’ Dre Frenzley scored a game-high 16 points to lead Sto-Rox (4-1, 2-0) past Springdale (3-2, 1-1) in a Section 1-2A matchup. Demitri Fritch led the Dynamos with 15 points.

Norwin 72, North Hills 45 — Olivia Gribble scored 23 points, and Emily Brozeski and Jessica Kolesar each had 10 as No. 4 Norwin (5-0, 2-0) rolled to a Section 1-6A win. The Knights opened a 41-29 lead at halftime.

Connellsville 40, Mt. Pleasant 34 — Baileigh Bishop had 20 points to lead Connellsville (2-3) to a nonsection win. Chloe Jaworski had 14 points to lead Mt. Pleasant (2-4).

Yough 30, Geibel 10 — Kaylyn Odelli had eight points as Yough (2-5) won a nonsection game. The Cougars started on a 12-0 run.

Ligonier Valley 50, Saltsburg 48 — Destiny Sheriff had 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead Ligonier Valley (1-4, 1-2) to a District 6 Heritage Conference win.

Kiski Area 58, St. Joseph 6 — Hannah Potter scored a game-high 28 points and Samantha Worthing added 10 as Kiski Area (2-4) rolled past St. Joseph (0-4) in a nonsection matchup.

Freeport 64, Hampton 38 — The Yellowjackets finished with four players scoring in double digits, including Sidney Shemanski’s game-high 20 points, as Class 4A No. 5 Freeport rolled past nonsection opponent Hampton and extended its winning streak to four games. Samantha Clark finished with 15 points, Madeline Clark added 14 and Haley Graham 13 for Freeport (4-1). Kayla Hoehler led Hampton (0-5) with 12 points.

North Catholic 76, Apollo-Ridge 22 — The Class 4A top-ranked Trojans held a 56-14 halftime lead and rolled past Section 1-4A foe Apollo-Ridge. Kylee Lewandowski scored a game-high 19 points and Tess Myers added 15 points for North Catholic (4-0, 2-0). Maddy Moore led Apollo-Ridge (4-1, 1-1) with eight points.

Montour 63, Allderdice 51 – Courtney Tomas tallied 36 points for Montour (3-2) in a nonsection win.
