High school roundup for Dec. 22, 2018: Moon boys defeat Aliquippa

Donovan Johnson netted 23 points to help Moon defeat Aliquippa, 55-48, in a nonsection boys basketball game at the PBC Holiday Festival Saturday at Moon.

Austin Ryan added 11 points for Moon (7-0).

William Gipson scored 17 points for Aliquippa (3-2).

Canon-McMillan 46, Palos Verdes Peninsula (Calif.) 31 — At the Kreul Classic in Coral Springs, Fla., Tommy Samosky scored 13 points and Luke Palma added 12 as Canon-McMillan (4-3) defeated Palos Verdes Peninsula (Calif.).

Hempfield 49, Greensburg Salem 38 — Marcus McCarthy scored 23 points as Hempfield (5-3) held Greensburg Salem (3-5) to 12 first-half points in its nonsection win. Reed Hipps added 11 points for Hempfield. Ryan Thomas scored all but eight of Greensburg Salem’s points.

Mt. Lebanon 77, Central Catholic 47 — Jake Hoffman scored 25 points as Mt. Lebanon (6-1) downed Central Catholic (2-4) at the PBC Holiday Festival at Montour. Sean Loughlin added 14 points while Mike Palmer chipped in 10 points in the win.

Mars 52, Fairmont Prep (Calif.) 39 — Michael Carmody scored 14 points and pulled down 20 rebounds to lead Mars (7-1) over Fairmont Prep (Calif.) at the Tarkanian Classic tournament in Las Vegas. Andrew Recchia also scored 14 points for Mars while Khori Fusco added 13 points.

Girls basketball

Baldwin 55, Fox Chapel 53 — Alexis Kennard led Baldwin (4-2) with a game-high 23 points in a nonsection victory. Gabby Guerrieri led Fox Chapel (5-2) with 14 points, Jessica Paper chipped in with 12 and Domenica Delaney 10.

West Greene 74, Wheeling Central Catholic 55 — McKenna Lampe scored 18 points as West Greene coach Jordan Watson picked up his 100th career win in the Pioneers victory over Wheeling Central Catholic. Madison Lampe added 17 points for West Greene (7-1) while Elizabeth Brudnock and Kaitlyn Rizor tallied 13 and 10 points, respectively. Wheeling Central’s Kaylee Reinbeau led all scorers with 25 points while teammate Eden Gainer totaled 18 points.

California 47, Geibel 14 — McKayla Boda scored 16 points to lead California (3-3, 2-1) to a Section 2-A win over Geibel (0-7, 0-3). Dajah Gudel added 11 points for California, which led, 31-2, at halftime.

Baldwin 55, Fox Chapel 53 — Alexis Kennard scored 23 points to lead Baldwin (4-2) to a nonsection win against Fox Chapel (5-2). Megan Dryburgh added 14 points for Baldwin while Gabby Guerrieri paced Fox Chapel with 14 points.
