Jordan Tallman and Kyle Myers combined on a five-inning perfect game Tuesday as Latrobe softball opened Section 1-5A action with an 11-0 victory against Laurel Highlands (0-2, 0-1).

Tallman struck out nine and Myers six for the Wildcats (2-0, 1-0).

Makayla Munchinski drove in four runs and went 2 for 2 with a three-run homer in a five-run first inning.

Emily Schmucker had a two-run homer in the fourth inning, Alaura McHenry had two triples and Ashley Noel added a triple and a single.

Hempfield 5, North Hills 3 — Hempfield (1-1, 1-0) scored two runs in the sixth and seventh innings to claim a Section 2-6A victory. Olivia Persin hit a two-run homer, and Laura Fox was 3 for 3 with a double. Callie Sowers allowed seven hits and had 10 strikeouts in the victory.

Seneca Valley 1, Norwin 0 — Olivia Madey singled in the only run of the game in the sixth to give Seneca Valley (3-0, 1-0) a Section 2-6A victory. Angelina Pepe took the loss for the Knights (0-1, 0-1) after scattering nine hits. Norwin turned a triple play in the second inning.

Pine-Richland 7, Butler 6 (9 inn.) — Freshman Alexia Brown homered in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Pine-Richland (1-0, 1-0) a Section 2-6A victory.

South Side Beaver 4, Brentwood 1 — Winning pitcher MaKenzie Freeman was 3 for 3 with a double to help South Side Beaver (1-0, 1-0) win in Section 1-2A.

Leechburg 10, Jeannette 0 (5 inn.) — McKenna Pierce had a two-run triple and also doubled as Leechburg won in Section 3-A. Tatum Berner doubled twice and drove in a run, and Emma Ritchie pitched five innings with nine strikeouts to pick up the win for Leechburg (1-0, 1-0). Faith Johnston struck out three in the loss for Jeannette (0-1, 0-1).

Plum 6, Shaler 4 — MacKenzie Lake homered and drove in three runs as Plum won in Section 2-5A. Gabrielle Fischetti homered and doubled, and Abbey Froehlich picked up the win for Plum (1-0, 1-0). Megan Povich doubled for Shaler (0-1, 0-1).

Burrell 10, Steel Valley 1 — Kayla Santucci hit a home run, singled twice and drove in five runs as the Bucs opened their season with a nonsection victory. Caroline Dynka doubled and singled and picked up the win with eight strikeouts. Mia Horwatt added a double for Burrell (1-0).

Albert Gallatin 10, Kiski Area 9 — Maddy Hershberger doubled twice and drove in three runs as Albert Gallatin defeated Kiski Area in Section 1-5A. Maddie Flowers and Delaney Girvin each doubled for Albert Gallatin (1-0, 1-0). Courtney Moyer had four hits, including two triples, and Megan Andree had three hits for Kiski Area (0-1, 0-1).

North Allegheny 19, Fox Chapel 4 (4 inn.) — Kristen Chomos homered twice and drove in six runs as North Allegheny breezed by Fox Chapel in Section 2-6A play. Brooke Serbin tripled, doubled and drove in two runs for North Allegheny (1-0, 1-0). Claire Katz and Jess Klein doubled and drove in one run each for Fox Chapel (0-1, 0-1).

Ligonier Valley 10, Penns Manor 0 (5 inn.) — Madison Griffin was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, and Taylor Bojtos added three hits as Ligonier Valley (1-0, 1-0) earned a District 6 Heritage Conference win. Jane Garver threw a one-hitter and struck out 14 in the win.

Baseball

Ellwood City 12, Shenango 7 — Ricky Pitrelli and Doug Balin each knocked in three runs to guide Ellwood City (1-2) to a nonsection win.

Mt. Lebanon 3, North Allegheny 2 — Jeffrey Dengler struck out four and allowed two hits over three innings to earn a nonsection win for Mt. Lebanon (1-2).

Norwin 8, Indiana 3 — Derek Turkovski had two hits, and Logan Divald earned the victory as Norwin (1-0) picked up a nonsection win.

Pine-Richland 14, Armstrong 1 (5 inn.) — Matthew Wood hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and had six RBIs, and Troy LaNeve hit a two-run triple as Pine-Richland (2-0) rolled to a nonsection victory.

Serra Catholic 2, Mohawk 0 — Mark Black smacked a two-run home run to guide Serra Catholic (3-0) to a nonsection victory.

Ligonier Valley 13, Penns Manor 0 (5 inn.) — John Caldwell tossed a four-hitter, and Benjamin Anderson had two hits and five RBIs as Ligonier Valley (1-0, 1-0) won a District 6 Heritage Conference game. Sully Schueltz added two hits and three RBIs, and Clark Harr and Sam Sheeder also knocked in two runs.

Burrell 4, Kiski Area 2 — The season opener for Burrell and Kiski Area came down to the wire: bases loaded, no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Burrell reliever Jack Henderson worked out of the jam, preserving the Bucs’ nonsection victory. Henderson turned Billy Perroz’s sharp comebacker into a 1-2-3 double play, then retired Ryne Wallace on a fly ball to left field.

Tyler Mock gave Burrell (1-0) an insurance run with a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh, while Marshall McKallip also doubled.

Perroz, Wallace, Matt Skelly and Zach Morrill all doubled for Kiski Area (0-1).

Apollo-Ridge 6, Leechburg 4 — Bradley Schrock had a three-run double as Apollo-Ridge won in nonsection play. Anthony Blackgrove pitched a complete game and struck out 11 for Apollo-Ridge (1-0). Anthony Mangee hit an RBI single for Leechburg (0-1).

Highlands 10, St. Joseph 5 — Zac Kuniak singled twice and tripled as Highlands won in nonsection play. Luke Beer singled and doubled, and Tanner Nulph picked up the win for Highlands (1-0). Anthony Kuhns and Grant Bendis each singled twice and drove in one run for St. Joseph (0-1).

Knoch 10, Riverside 9 — Sean McGill had three hits, including the game-winning two-run double, as Knoch earned a win in nonsection play. Braden Tistani singled twice and drove in three runs and Jack Bartek picked up the win for Knoch (1-0). Kevin Kolesar doubled and drove in three runs for Riverside (1-1).

Fox Chapel 5, Plum 4 — Jonathan Simon had an RBI double and drew a bases loaded walk as Fox Chapel won in nonsection play. He was also the winning pitcher as he went four innings and struck out five. Noah Marks had an RBI double for Fox Chapel (1-0). Chandler Yocca singled three times, and Anthony Frazetta doubled for Plum (0-1).

Freeport 12, Washington 1 (5 inn.) — Austin Kepes and Zach Allen both doubled as Freeport (1-0) opened its season with a mercy-rule victory in nonsection play. Bradyn Clark picked up the win for the Yellowjackets (1-0), striking out five batters in five innings.
