North Allegheny notebook: Tigers boys soccer team wins in overtime

Nathan Katari scored in overtime to lift North Allegheny to a 2-1 win over Pine-Richland in a Section 1-4A boys soccer game Sept. 26.

Luke Brady also scored for the Tigers, who improved to 11-0-1 overall and 8-0-1 in section play.

Dante Accamando earned the win in goal.

North Allegheny had outscored opponents 41-10 through its first 12 games.

NA girls soccer blanks Pine-Richland

Abigail Stager scored in the 18th minute to give North Allegheny a 1-0 victory over Pine-Richland in a Section 1-4A girls soccer match Sept. 27.

Natalie Rak made two saves to post the shutout.

Stager, a Kentucky recruit who has 20 goals this season, and Rak were two of nine seniors recognized on senior night before the game, along with Sam Braden, Jadyn Coy, Libby Earley, Natalie Figura, Abby Lang, Ally Ruiz and Gracie Strzempek.

North Allgheny improved to 12-0 overall and 9-0 in section play.

Tigers volleyball moves to 7-0

North Allegheny girls volleyball beat Mt. Lebanon, 3-0, in a nonsection match Sept. 27 to move to 7-0 overall.

Game scores were 25-17, 25-13 and 25-19.

Jamie Frisco and Marin Dunaway each had 10 kills. Mackenzie Jones had 11 assists.

The Tigers also topped Seneca Valley, 3-1, last week in a key Section 1-4A match. Game scores were 25-19, 23-25, 25-17 and 25-17.

Frisco had 12 kills and Dunaway had 10. Molly Robertson had 22 assists and seven kills, and Jones had 13 assists.

Water polo teams beat Cathedral Prep

North Allegheny’s boys and girls water polo teams swept Cathedral Prep on Sept. 27.

The girls (7-5) won 11-4 behind four goals by Mikaela Dassanaike. Carissa Jones and Tori Tieppo each scored twice. Izzie Trunzo made 13 saves.

Grant Regule scored seven times to lead the NA boys to a 16-6 victory. Camden Wright had four goals, and Michael Stefanko made 10 saves for the Tigers (7-4).

NA tennis tops North Catholic

North Allegheny’s girls tennis team swept North Catholic, 5-0, on Sept. 26.

Peyton Mauser, Audrey Zheng and Tia Soussou won singles matches in straight sets. Siya Jain/Rebecca Murphy and Kaitlyn Zeman/Ella Mangene won their doubles matches in straight sets.

The Tigers moved to 13-1 overall.

5 golfers advance at WPIAL tournament

Five members of the North Allegheny boys golf team advanced to the final round of the WPIAL tournament.

Competing in the first round Sept. 25 at Latrobe Country Club, Ravi Desai shot 4-over 76 to tie for third place. Jacob Phrampus (80), Chris Hoffman (82), Collin Ward (82) and Colin Rende (82) also finished in the top 36 to advance to the final round.
