South Fayette enjoyed a breakout season in 2009. They went undefeated in the regular season and captured the Class AA Century Conference championship. However their season came to a bitter end in a wild shootout loss to Aliquippa in the WPIAL Quarterfinals. They are few and far between, but we have seen teams pull off perfect football seasons before in the WPIAL. However the new kids on the block in Class AAA went for perfection in a different way that has never been done before. One Season - One Championship. It had been two decades since one of the WPIAL Class AAAA's top football programs had won a district championship. However that drought ended when North Allegheny captured gold by beating the 2009 champion Woodland Hills Wolverines in the WPIAL finals at Heinz Field. There are 126 schools in the WPIAL that field a high school football team. While a majority still begin at 7:30pm, 38 of them now kickoff their home games at 7:00pm, including the enire Class AAA Keystone Conference. The countdown to the start of the 2011 high school football season is underway. High School football training camps throughout Western Pennsylvania open up on Monday, August 15th as teams prepare for the dawn of a new season which will kickoff Friday, September 2nd.
Washington Wild Things Fall Again to Lake Erie Crushers Sunday

The Washington Wild Things dropped game two of their three game weekend extended series against the Lake Erie Crushers 4-1 in Avon Ohio. The pitching for both teams was strong throughout the entire contest with the Wild Things pitching staff striking out ten batters and the Crushers striking out a total of twelve batters.Altoona Curve Bitten by Sea Dogs Sunday in Loss at Portland
The Sea Dogs spoiled the finale of the season series and four-game series on Sunday afternoon as they took care of the Curve 8-5 at Hadlock Field. Portland pounded out eight runs on 15 hits off Curve pitching in the win. Starling Marte had a nice game offensively for Altoona finishing 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored while Tony Sanchez had a pair of hits and drove in three.WPIAL Alumni Turning Pro

PIAA Executive Director Brad Cashman has announced that the upcoming 2011-2012 school year will be his last. He announced his retirement effective July of 2012.
