Ten teams have the perfect outlook on the WPIAL playoffs. The playoffs start Friday night and 10 WPIAL teams enter the postseason with perfect 9-0 records. A year ago, not one team made it through the WPIAL playoffs with an undefeated record. When it comes to WPIAL Girls Field Hockey Playoffs, 2010 turned out to be the Year of the Tigers. Both the North Allegheny Tigers in Class AAA and the Ellis School Tigers in Class AA captured district gold Monday night with victories at Fox Chapel High School. The WPIAL held six games on Tuesday night to set up the Super Soccer Saturday finals for the boys. The many surprises that have occurred in the girls tournaments didn't cross over to this gender as most of the top boys seeds are headed to the finals. North Allegheny defeated Fox Chapel 2-1 in overtime to win the AAA field hockey championship Monday night at Fox Chapel High School. The title is the 11th district crown in 14 years, but first for the Tigers since 2007. The lightest Saturday high school football schedule in the WPIAL turned out to be the final Saturday of high school football in the WPIAL. Win and you're in. A simple enough concept, especially for teams facing such a scenario in Week 9 of the WPIAL football season. There were players who put up bigger numbers on Friday none, but none that made more of an impact for their team than these players, whose clutch performance helped their teams clinch a ride on the Highway to Heinz.Shady Side Academy Wins PIAA Girls AAA Team Tennis Title by Edging Mt. Lebo
Last week, Shady Side Academy edged Mount Lebanon to win the 2010 WPIAL Girls Team Tennis Class AAA Championship. One week later, history has repeated itself in the 2010 PIAA Girls Team Tennis Finals. The Indians once again got the better of the Blue Devils Saturday afternoon to bring state gold back to The Academy.
