Week 2 saw some offensive showdowns in PSAC crossover games as teams get ready for divisional play next week.California took on their second ranked opponent of the season and the biggest question, will the Lock Haven losing streak ever end. Details follow, with recaps of all the games:Shippensburg 55 - Slippery Rock 35 Zach Zulli threw four touchdown passes, three coming in the final 4:30 of the second quarter, he also caught a td pass as the Red Raiders cruised to the crossover win at Seth Grove Stadium. There were not a whole lot of stars shining on the second Saturday of the WPIAL football season. No, it had nothing to do with the rainy afternoon or overcast evening. There were only three games played in District 7 on Saturday. Maybe some folks weren't ready for Primetime with conference action starting in Week One throughout the WPIAL. Maybe they are showing up a tad late for the 2012 drama playing out on a stage near you. Or maybe a fast start out of the gates continued in the second furlough. A light Week Two Saturday high school football schedule was made less busy a few weeks ago when Geibel High School announced they would forfeit their first two games because of only having ten healthy players. The Gators were scheduled to host Tri-County South Conference power Beth-Center in their home opener, but instead settle for a second straight 2-0 loss. That left only three WPIAL games and two Pittsburgh City League contests on the Saturday slate, with all three District 7 games heard here on The Network. Sophomores had big games. Players who were their team’s No. 1 running back for the first time did some good things. A receiver turned running back also had a big game. The first weekend of the high school football season was a virtual coming-out party for some. Players introduced themselves to WPIAL football – and they were loud introductions. The leading rusher on the first weekend of the season was North Catholic’s P.J. Fulmore, a 10th-grader who had 265 yards. The second-leading rusher was Fort Cherry’s Koltan Kobrys, who played receiver last year. He ran for 250 yards.WPIAL and City League Week Two Friday Football Scores

Week One was a scorcher, we saw some big time upsets, some tremendous debuts, and some confirmations of things most of us suspected would be true for the 2012 campaign. With storms throughout the Western Pennsylvania area, the district College Football season kicked off with a bang with several great games. What better way to conclude opening weekend of the 2012 high school football season than for the WPIAL to put on a massive light show spectacular on Saturday night. Wait, what's that? It wasn't District 7 officials, rather Mother Nature that took center stage? Mmmm. It's a new season so an introduction may be needed. every Saturday during the high school football season, we look back at some of the top performances from the previous night...thus the HighLights aspect of this column.
