WPIAL Softball Playoff Recaps for Wednesday, May 25th

While a majority of the Final Four softball games in the 2011 WPIAL Softball Playoffs will take place Thursday, three tickets reserved their spots in the finals at Cal U on Wednesday. 10th-seed Seneca Valley continues its surprise run in Class AAAA and Latrobe took care of Quad A top-seed Shaler in extra innings, while the top-seed in Class A rolled on to the finals in convincing fashion.

The WPIAL Baseball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced today the 2011 winners of its annual Players, Pitchers and Coaches of the Year Awards. Players, Pitchers and Coaches of the Year were selected in Classes AAAA, AAA, AA and A based on regular season performance by a vote of WPIAL head baseball coaches.

16 games in the books from Quarterfinals Monday as the Final Four are now set in the 2011 WPIAL Baseball Playoffs. Two WPIAL baseball teams head into the Quarterfinals with undefeated records. Considering the past, it would be highly unusual if one of them wins the WPIAL title. Norwin is 17-0 and plays in the Class AAAA Quarterfinals Monday against Bethel Park. Elizabeth Forward is 18-0 and plays in the Class AAA Quarterfinals Monday against either Greensburg Salem or Central Valley.

No WPIAL Teams Reach Finals as Conestoga and HGP Win 2011 PIAA Boys Team Tennis Titles
The 2011 PIAA Boys Team Tennis Championships were WPIAL free Saturday afternoon at the Hershey Racquet Club in Hershey. The furthest District 7 team to advance was WPIAL Class AA champion Sewickley Academy as the Panthers lost Saturday morning in the Semifinals.

Shady Side Academy and Sewickley Academy Pairs Golden in 2011 WPIAL Boys Doubles Tennis

In the end, it was worth the wait for the two top-seeds. More than a week after playing the first three rounds of the 2011 WPIAL Boys Doubles Tennis Playoffs, top-seeds Vivek Nimgaokar and Justin Hunt of Shady Side Academy won the Class AAA title while Will Kleeman and Daniel Martchek of Sewickley Academy won gold in Class AA Monday afternoon at Keystone Oaks High School.
