Virginia Wins 2010 PONY League World Series

Ten of the top baseball teams from around the world made their way to Washington, Pennsylvania this past week to play in the 2010 PONY League World Series. Ellwood City Looking For Basketball Coach
The Ellwood City School Board accepted the resignation of Jason Bumblis on Thursday. Bumblis served the last three seasons at Lincoln High, after coming to Ellwood City from OLSH. The Wolverines were 17-53 in the last three seasons, including 7-15 in 2010, as the Wolverines were alive for a playoff spot until the final day of the regular season.

2010 WPIAL Schedules: Girls Soccer

Seneca Valley captured a second WPIAL girls soccer title in three years while Springdale finally knocked South Park off of its three year stay atop the WPIAL Class AA world. The Raiders and Dynamos were the last of the duo champions in girls soccer as expansion has grown the sport to three classifications this fall.

CTK 2010 – 2009 Pittsburgh City League Football Flashback

When the Pittsburgh City League championship game was set, there was no sign of defending champion Brashear and powerhouse Perry. Instead it was Schenley and Oliver that played in a District 8 title game for the ages. When the dust had settled, it was the Spartans surviving the Bears 34-32 in double overtime giving Schenley their first City League in over a decade.

The school colors for Gateway are black and gold. However recent history on the gridiron indicates maybe they should be changed to black and silver. For the third straight season, the Gators took home the silver after losing in the WPIAL Class AAAA football championship, this time to Woodland Hills as the Wolverines claimed their fifth football title and first since 2002.

The run of three straight WPIAL and two consecutive PIAA state championships came to an end for Thomas Jefferson, which saw their title hopes dashed in the Semifinals by eventual champion West Allegheny. After watching rival Jeannette bask in the golden glory with back-to-back WPIAL football championships in 2007 and 2008, Greensburg Central Catholic survived a tough Interstate Conference to win a title as a double-digit seed in a deep Class AA tournament. The district championship, captured with a rout of Aliquippa at Heinz Field, was the first in school history for the Centurions.

2010 WPIAL Schedules: Boys Soccer
Mount Lebanon, Mars and Greensburg Central Catholic were crowned 2009 WPIAL champions in boys soccer. Mars repeated as WPIAL Class AA champs while Greensburg Central Catholic captured their third district boys soccer title and first in five years and Mount Lebanon ended up on top of the Class AAA boys soccer world with a tenth WPIAL title and first since 2002.

The beat continued in Class A last year as powers Clairton and Rochester met at Heinz Field for the third time in the last six years. After a hectic finish decided on a missed two-point conversion, the Bears edged the Rams 14-13 and celebrated back-to-back WPIAL crowns and their third district title in the past four year.
