There were only five WPIAL football games played on the second Saturday of October, but four of them were key conference contests from Class AAAA, Class AA and Class A. Fresh into the second half of the regular season, new life seemed to be breathed into several players as their performances rose just as the mercury outside was on the rise from the last two weeks. Under splendid conditions Monday afternoon, the WPIAL held its Girls Team Golf Division I and Division II Semifinals at two different courses. In a major surprise at the WPIAL Division I Boys Golf Championships, a freshman claimed the top spot.
