Some of the Homecoming Queens at high schools in Western Pennsylvania are selected by way of vote, while other winners are decided randomly by whichever rose they select. Three schools celebrated homecoming weekend with Saturday high school football games instead of on the traditional Friday night. Here are the performers who may not have selected the correct rose, but they were definitely a thorn in the side of their opponents. Welcome to Week 5 of the high school football season. Chick’s Picks spends more time than she would care to admit trolling Amazon for her next potential purchase. Last week, Chick’s Picks stumbled upon a plethora of crystal balls. Tempted by the allure of the shiny, new prognosticating tools, Chick’s Picks decided that a bit of research would not hurt. Her guilty conscience set in right away, as she struggled with the desire to upgrade her equipment despite more than 15 years of loyalty to her current crystal ball. Week Five and the drive to stay alive is no jive, if you can make it you will arrive, where you want to be. Keeping that sentence there because, as bad as it is, it did not trigger any grammatical or spelling errors in the Microsoft Word software and, I like it. Week Five has great matchups including a preview of what many think could be the eventual championship game in AAAAAA. Before we get to week five though, WOW!!!! What a night at Dormont Stadium in week four, Beaver and Darius Wise and, Keystone Oaks and Alex Smith put on a show for the ages. Both of the Saturday afternoon football games in the WPIAL in Week Four matched teams with postseason expectations trying to stay near the top of their respective conferences taking on teams that were trying to snap losing skids that already have put their playoff hopes in jeopardy. Bishop Canevin Crusaders Hometown Volleyball Broadcast Recap

Behind an early run and tremendous serving, Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic defeated Bishop Canevin 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 28-26) in a non-section tilt on Monday night at Bishop Canevin High School. The Trojanettes racked up 15 aces in the match, as five different players had at least three service winners.Sarah Parey set the tempo for CWNC with four first set aces and two of her team-high six kills in the match. Parey was responsible for the early separation between the two squads, as the Trojanettes started the match on a 10-0 run behind Parey's serves. Any coach will tell you, versatility in a football player is huge. If you can play various positions at a high level in all three aspects of the game, that is a very good thing. Especially in Class 1-A where rosters sizes are small and the demand for versatility is not only appreciated, but needed. Most of the time, the Clairton Bears have a perfect view from the top of the Eastern Conference. Will anyone get in the way of that view this year? Clairton has won the Eastern Conference championship outright nine of the past 10 years. Every time, the Bears finished with a perfect record. Over the past decade, the only time Clairton didn’t finish perfect in conference play was 2013, when the Bears tied for first with Monessen and Fort Cherry. Just about everybody picks Clairton as the No. 1 team in WPIAL Class 1A this season. But Jeannette seems primed to give the Bears a challenge.
WPIAL Alum Q&A – Carly Forse

Last month, the Bishop Canevin girls' basketball team captured its second WPIAL crown with a decisive victory against Greensburg Central Catholic. The previous title came back in 2013, when Carly Forse helped guide the Crusaders to gold. Forse, who has carried her success on the hardwood over to Point Park University, is the focus of this week's WPIAL Alum Q&A.
Central Bucks South Beats Bishop Canevin for AA PA Cup

Through the first period of play in the Class AA Pennsylvania Cup Championship, the Bishop Canevin Crusaders battled back and forth with Central Bucks South. The second period, however, was complete dominance by the Titans, who scored five unanswered goals to prevail 7-3 at the Pegula Ice Arena at Penn State University to win their second state title in the past three years. Matt Stoll propelled CB South, as he netted four goals, including three in the decisive middle frame. Additionally, the Titans outshot Bishop Canevin 43-17 in a rematch of the 2014 Pennsylvania Cup Championship.
