Hempfield sophomore heavyweight Isaiah Vance and Canon-McMillan senior Gerrit Nijenhuis picked up titles Saturday at the Cumberland Valley Tournament in Mechanicsburg. Vance went 4-0 with three pins. Franklin Regional works on finishing moves in win over Greensburg Salem
Franklin Regional went to a half-court offensive set late in Saturday afternoon's game against Greensburg Salem. Monessen has made significant strides in the softball postseason the last few years. If the Greyhounds are going to continue their upswing, however, they will do so with a new coach. And a young coach at that. The school recently named Carlee Wickstrom coach after Bo Teets' resignation last month.
Hempfield girls win opener with new coach; will play Greensburg Salem

Another coaching change at Hempfield didn't appear to affect the Spartans in their season-opening girls basketball game, a 52-36 victory over Mt. Pleasant on Friday night at the Greensburg Salem Tip Off Tournament. Jessica Persin scored 18 points, including five 3-pointers, and Sarah Liberatore added 16 in Tom Brush's coaching
