High school roundup for Dec. 11, 2023: South Fayette girls polish off rival Chartiers Valley

Juliette Leroux scored 20 points and Haylie Lamonde added 19 to lead South Fayette to a 67-49 nonsection girls basketball victory over rival Chartiers Valley on Monday night.

Erica Hall chipped in 11 and Lainey Yater finished with 10 for South Fayette (3-1). Lilah Turnbull scored 14 points for Chartiers Valley (3-1), which suffered its first loss.

Apollo-Ridge 48, Valley 14 – Sophie Yard scored 19 points and Josalin McCauley added eight to help Apollo-Ridge (3-2) to a nonsection victory. Neveah Lyle led Valley (0-6) with five points.

Aquinas Academy 54, Rochester 45 – Emily Fisher and Violet Johnson scored 14 points apiece to lead Aquinas Academy (6-0) over Rochester (2-2) in a nonsection win. Fisher hit four 3-pointers and Johnson scored 13 points in the second half. Tia Yellock scored 16 and Avah Williams added 10 for the Rams.

Avonworth 47, Pine-Richland 44 – Rebecca Goetz and Greta O’Brien each scored 15 points for Avonworth (3-0) in a nonsection win. Catherine Gentile and Madison Zavasky scored 14 points apiece for Pine-Richland (0-4).

Belle Vernon 44, Charleroi 43 – Saylor Lee scored 12 points and Kenzi Seliga added 10 to push Belle Vernon (3-1) past Charleroi (3-1) in a nonsection win. Bella Carroto scored 20 points and Ella Sypolt had 10 for the Cougars.

Blackhawk 61, Franklin Regional 30 – Aubree Hupp put up 22 points for Blackhawk (4-1) as the Cougars rolled to a nonsection victory. Olivia Orndorff led Franklin Regional (0-4) with 11 points.

Brashear 53, Propel Montour 16 – Shayla Washington and Sa’Naja Hendley each scored 14 points, La’Pricia Ashley added 11 and Ra’Niya Morris finished with 10 as Brashear (2-2) picked up a nonsection win over Propel Montour (1-3).

Butler 53, Hampton 45 – Amelia McMichael scored 31 points to lead Butler (2-2) to a nonsection win. Meghan Murray led Hampton (1-4) with 23 points and Sterling Thomson had 11.

Canon-McMillan 71, North Hills 68 – Nadia Davis led all scorers with 24 points, Madison Clair finished with 19 , Lauren Borella scored 14 and Samantha Miller made three 3-pointers and had 12 points for Canon-McMillan (3-1) in a nonsection win. Gianna Sturdivant scored 17 points, Jayden Arnett made three 3s and had 11 points and Olivia Waters chipped in 12 points and sank three 3-pointers for North Hills (3-2).

Cathedral Prep 70, Mt. Lebanon 50 – Riley Collins made five 3-pointers and had 17 points, Payton Collins made three 3-pointers and finished with 14 points and Shea McCarthy scored 10 for Mt. Lebanon (2-2) in a nonsection loss against Cathedral Prep (2-1). Addie Biel dropped 30 for the Ramblers.

Eden Christian 48, Ellis School 19 – Ella Dippolito had 13 points and Emmie Smith scored 10 for Eden Christian (2-3) in a nonsection win over Ellis School (3-2).

Elizabeth Forward 54, Beaver 35 – Michelle Jellison led with 13 points and Alyssa Terza added 10 to lead Elizabeth Forward (3-2) to a nonsection win. Annsley Baker scored 13 points and Kylie Conley had 12 for Beaver (2-3).

Ellwood City 56, Brentwood 35 – Kayla Jones led all scorers with 22 points and Claire Noble finished with 19 as Ellwood City (4-1) beat Brentwood (1-4) in nonsection play. Mia March scored 12 points, Paige Boehm added 11 and Ay’maree Henry chipped in with 10 for the Spartans.

Freedom 56, Quaker Valley 46 – Shaye Bailey scored 18 points to lead Freedom (1-3) to a nonsection win. Mimi Thiero led Quaker Valley (0-4) with 28 points.

Hempfield 53, Kiski Area 44 – Allie Cervola scored 20 points and Ashley Hosni added 10 for Hempfield (3-1) in a nonsection win. Abbie Johns finished with 20 and Gianna DeVito had 12 for Kiski Area (3-2).

Highlands 60, Montour 38 – Katelyn Myers scored 18 points to lead Highlands (3-1) to a nonsection win over Montour (2-2). Kalleigh Nerone added 14 and Jocelyn Bielak had 12 for the Golden Rams.

Hopewell 50, Riverside 15 – Caylee Sundy and Avery Boyd scored 13 points apiece to lead Hopewell (3-3) to a nonsection win over Riverside (2-2).

Indiana 39, Knoch 24 – Cassie Boyer led Indiana (3-1) with 10 points in a nonsection win. Adah Fuller scored seven points for Knoch (2-3).

Penn-Trafford 92, Woodland Hills 47 – Torrie Destefano scored all her 20 points in the first half, Paige Temple added 11 points, and Isabella Fontana and Lauren Marton each put up 10 points for Penn-Trafford (4-1), which opened the game on a 21-0 run in a nonsection win. Jhalynn Wilson set a Woodland Hills single-game scoring record with 35 points and Atiyah Walker chipped in with 12 for the Wolverines (0-3).

Peters Township 56, West Mifflin 25 – Natalie Wetzel led Peters Township (4-0) with 17 points, Gemma Walker and Daniela Radulovich added 10 points apiece, and Peri Cendroski had nine in a nonsection win. Savaughn Wimbs scored 15 points for West Mifflin (2-3).

West Allegheny 58, Fort Cherry 35 – Emma Ruperto led with 21 points, Alaina Holtz followed with 15, and Lexie Adams added 10 to lead West Allegheny (2-3) to a nonsection win. Raney Staub scored 12 points and Ava Menzies had 10 for Fort Cherry (3-1).

Winchester Thurston 74, Frazier 22 – Aleah Cooper produced 21 points, DaShae Cochran followed with 20, and Jasmine Hollins scored 15 for Winchester Thurston (2-2) in a nonsection win. Chloe Harger led Frazier (2-3) with 10 points.

Yough 54, Steel Valley 23 – Autumn Matthews scored 20 points, Carly Fitzgibbons added 11 and Brooke Kowalski chipped in with 12 to lead Yough (4-1) to a nonsection win. Ava Caiarelli scored seven points to lead Steel Valley (0-5).

Albert Gallatin 74, Brentwood 57 – Blake White scored a game-high 22 points, Mykel Belt added 16 and Shymere Wilson had 12 points on four 3-pointers as Albert Gallatin (3-2) beat Brentwood (2-3) in nonsection play. Forrest Betz scored 20 points and drained four 3-pointers, Zach Wuenschell had 11 points and Colton Rosing made three 3-pointers for the Spartans.

Armstrong 64, Perry 19 – Isaiah Riggle scored 22 points and Zack Wiles added 10 for Armstrong (4-1) in a nonsection win. Jordan Raldan scored six points for Perry (0-5).

Brownsville 65, California 50 – Trent Wible led all scorers with 26 points and Rylan Johnson added 10 as Brownsville (2-3) defeated California (0-3) in nonsection play. Jaquese Derns scored 15 and Jacob Ziolecki and Vinny Manzella each had 13 points for the Trojans.

DuBois 66, Indiana 47 – Aaron Webb led Indiana (1-2) with 16 points as the Indians dropped a nonsection contest. Maddox Bennet scored 24 points for DuBois.

Jefferson-Morgan 46, Charleroi 43 – John Woodwrad scored 18 points and Houston Guesman chipped in 14 to lead Jefferson-Morgan (4-1) past Charleroi (0-4) in nonsection play. Bryce Large scored a game-high 19 points for the Cougars.

Penn-Trafford 70, Woodland Hills 49 – Tyler Freas sank six 3-pointers and finished with 27 points, while Jason Sabol made two 3-pointers and had 11 points for Penn-Trafford (4-1) in a nonsection win. Scoop Smith put up 23 points for Woodland Hills (2-1).

Rochester 55, Freedom 25 – Jayvin Hemer dropped 26 points, Nate Bills added 12 and Xavier Rigby had 10 for Rochester (2-1) in a nonsection win. Garrett Drutarosky scored 11 points to lead Freedom (0-6).

Seton LaSalle 56, Carrick 38 – Pat Weldon and Keenu Brooks scored 16 points apiece to lead Seton LaSalle (3-1) to a nonsection win. Ray Saunders led Carrick 0-3) with nine points.

South Side 74, Ambridge 59 – South Side (1-2) got 21 points from Brody Almashy, 17 from A.C. Corfield and 11 from Carter Wilson in a nonsection win over Ambridge (3-3). Julien Hubbard scored 15 points, Jared Astorino and Nino Ridout each scored 14 points and Adma Fernandez had 10 for the Bridgers.

Uniontown 79, Beaver 63 – Jamire Braxton led with 29 points, Notorious Grooms had 15 and Calvin Winfrey added 13 to lead Uniontown (4-0) to a nonsection win. Brady Mayo scored 31 points and Ty Butler had 19 for Beaver (2-2).

Waynesburg 81, Beth-Center 77 – Alex Vansickle and Dane Woods each dropped 23 points, Alex Eck added 13 and Cole Headlee followed with 12 as Waynesburg (2-3) beat Beth-Center (1-3) in nonsection play. Brody Tharp had a game-high 31 points, Jason Zellie followed with 23 and Jonah Sussan finished with 12 for the Bulldogs.

Avonworth 6, Plum 3 – Conner Ralston and Austin Dzadovsky scored two goals each for Avonworth (9-1) in a Class A victory. Maksim Popienko, Luca Lapiana and Rylan Schoonover scored for Plum (5-5).

Bishop Canevin 17, Trinity 2 – Eion Tiernan had a seven-point night with four goals and three assists to lead Bishop Canevin (9-0) to a Varsity D2 win. Ryan Saginaw had three goals and two assists. Cale Bitz scored twice for Trinity (1-6).

Burrell 7, Neshannock 3 – Aidan Petroff had three goals and an assist, Tyler Danko added a goal and two assists, and Chantz Watkins and John Lukac had a goal and an assist apiece to lead Burrell (7-3) to a Varsity D2 win. Julian Kemp had three assists. John Moniodes had a goal and an assist and Brian McConahy and Micah DeJulia also scored for Neshannock (8-2).

Chartiers Valley 4, Wheeling Catholic 2 – Chris Deangelis, Austin Tornabene, Austin Efthimiades and Romeo Isoldi scored to lead Chartiers Valley (11-0) to a Class A win over Wheeling Catholic (4-4-1).

Deer Lakes 2, Morgantown 1 – RJ Noullet and Zachary Nacey had a goal each to help Deer Lakes (7-3) edge Morgantown (5-4) in Division 2. Aaron Haney made 15 saves for the Lancers.

Elizabeth Forward 12, Knoch 2 – Joey Wach had four goals and an assist, Bobby Boord Jr. added three goals and an assist, and Josh Hill scored twice to lead Elizabeth Forward (3-4) to a Varsity D2 win. Brady Linamen and Mick Ritts scored for Knoch (3-7).

Franklin Regional 5, Bishop McCort 3 – Max Rutkowski scored two goals and Tyler Spears, Max Williams and Nick Matus had a goal apiece to lead Franklin Regional (5-3-1) to a Class 2A win. Sammy Treager, Nikita Kolomejtsev and Timur Naletov scored for Bishop McCort (3-6).

Indiana 6, Meadville 5 (OT) – Landin Wilson scored the overtime winner and added two assists for Indiana (9-1-2) in a Class A victory. Ash Lockard had three goals and an assist and Phil Bell added two goals and two assists. Preston Phillis had two goals and an assist for Meadville (8-3-1).

Moon 2, Freeport 0 – Noah Driscoll and Luke Jeffries scored and Logan Cordie made 24 saves to record a shutout as Moon (7-4) picked up a Class A win. Luke Laboda made 30 saves for Freeport (2-7-3).

North Allegheny 4, Central Catholic 1 – Owen Logan, Ravi Desai, Evan Kerber and Marc Joyson scored as North Allegheny (8-2) beat Central Catholic (4-6) in Class 3A. Judah Brophy scored the only goal for the Vikings. Andrew Long made 24 of 25 saves for the Tigers.

Norwin 6, Penn-Trafford 5 (SO) – Dom Costantino and Alex Thomas each scored twice and Dom Cerilli also added a goal as Norwin (6-3-2) won a Class 2A game in a shootout. Marco Ferracio had three goals and two assists, including the game-tying goal with 1:26 left, for Penn-Trafford (4-4-1). Chase Bonson had two goals, including one in the third period.

Seneca Valley 3, Baldwin 2 – The Raiders (7-3) won via shootout in a Class 3A game. Jacob Gilbert scored on the power play in the third period for Seneca Valley to force overtime. The goal came 43 seconds after Tanner Plinta scored shorthanded to give Baldwin a brief lead. Ethan Riffe also scored for the Raiders. Austin Landosky made 40 saves for the Highlanders (1-7-1).

Shaler 7, Montour 3 – Darius Malecki had a hat trick and Luca Wallander, Chase Irwin, Matthew Stelitano and Tyler Garasich added a goal apiece to lead Shaler (8-1) to a Class A win. Jonah Camardese-Woodruff, Aiden Moskovitz and Thomas Barefoot for Montour (3-9).

South Fayette 6, North Hills 1 – Nolan Murphy had two goals and an assist and Trevor D’Alessandro and Robert Chiapetta each added a goal and an assist to help South Fayette (6-1-1) to a Class 2A win. Andrew Nazak scored for North Hills (0-11).

Wrestling

Pine-Richland 49, Knoch 18 – Sam Harris (215), Robert Hoy (133), Dominic Ferraro (139), Mac Miller (160) and Ben Crocco (189) recorded pins, Alden Rockacy (107) and Owen Long (114) won by decision, and Peyton Ferguson (121) and Cole Wilson (215) won major decisions for Pine-Richland (1-0) in a nonsection match. Paul Kuczynski (127) and Owen Layhew (152) had pins for Knoch (1-1).
