High school roundup for Dec. 30, 2023: Bethel Park beats Blackhawk at Ambridge tournament

Nick Brown scored 22 points to lead four Bethel Park players in double figures in an 88-69 win over Blackhawk on Saturday at the Ambridge tournament.

Shawn Davis scored 20, Michael Mathias had 14 and Jack Bruckner added 10 for the Black Hawks (5-4). Justin Shanor had a double-double with 18 points and 18 rebounds for Blackhawk (4-6) and Tyler Heckathorn scored 20.

Beaver 54, Fairview 36 – Brady Mayo poured in 24 points to lead Beaver (5-5) to a win at the Holiday Bash at Butler. Ty Butler added nine points for the Bobcats.

Butler 54, McKeesport 41 – Donovan Carney had 24 points to help Holiday Bash host Butler (7-1) defeat McKeesport (3-4).

Chaminade (NY) 81, North Catholic 76 Jan Elliott had 21 points as Chaminade (N.Y.) defeated North Catholic (4-5) at the Governor’s Challenge at Maryland-Eastern Shore. Jason Fredericks and Wills Kontul scored 16 points each for North Catholic.

Chartiers-Houston 54, Avella 46 – Avery Molek scored 19 points and Paul Williamson and Justus Buckingham had 10 each as Chartiers-Houston (8-2) won the third-place game at the Avella tournament. Westley Burchianti scored 21 points and Bryce Wright added 11 for Avella (5-5).

Fairdale (KY) 54, Burrell 48 – Jacob Tucker scored 15 points to lead Fairdale (KY) at the Daytona Beach Sunshine Classic in Florida. Tucker Bitar scored 14 points, Mackey Bennis 12 and Joey Discello 11 for Burrell (6-2).

Franklin Regional 74, Laurel Highlands 43 – Cam Rowell scored 20 points and Cooper Rankin followed with 19 as Franklin Regional (8-1) won at the Holiday Bash at Geneva College. Ethan Koffler scored 15 and Aiden Black added 12 for Laurel Highlands (2-8). The Panthers jumped out to a 20-8 lead after one quarter.

Gateway 42, Bishop Guilfoyle 39 – Alex Lowry scored 14 points and Alex Dunsmore added 10 to power Gateway (7-1) to a win at the Holiday Bash at Butler. Danny Haigh led Bishop Guilfoyle with 16 points.

Highlands 71, Ambridge 59 – Bradyn Foster scored 26 points to lead four players in double figures for Highlands (5-3) at the Ambridge tournament. Jordyn Tavares had 16, Cam Reigard 14 and Ali Shareef 12. Adam Fernandez led the host Bridgers (3-7) with 23 points. Nino Ridout had 12 and Jared Astorino 11.

Indiana 35, West Shamokin 21 – Stanford Webb had 12 points and Indiana (4-4) topped West Shamokin to win the championship game of the St. Joseph tournament.

Lancaster (SC) 65, Imani Christian 51 Nate Brazil scored a game-high 15 points, but Imani Christian (1-4) fell at the Chick-fil-A Classic in South Carolina. Malik Tinsley scored 14 for Lancaster.

Latrobe 67, Horseheads (NY) 56 – Max Butler scored 25 points to lead Latrobe (4-5) to a win at the Josh Palmer Classic in New York. Ja’Tawn Williams added 17 for the Wildcats and John Wetzel finished with 12.

Lincoln Park 82, Belle Vernon 47 – Brandin Cummings had 24 points and Meleek Thomas scored 22 to help Lincoln Park (7-2) cruise to a win in the Holiday Bash at Geneva College. Zion Moore had 26 points for Belle Vernon (5-2).

Rochester 67, New Brighton 54 – Xavier Rigby finished with 19 points to lead Rochester (3-5) to a win at the Ambridge tournament. Jeremiah Haskins and Jayden Norman added 10 points each for the Rams. Dash Graham scored 18 for New Brighton (2-8) and Brian Taylor had 14.

Seton LaSalle 94, Huntington Prep (WV) 74 At the Mountain Schoolboy Classic in Belfrey, Ky., Ian March led a trio of Seton LaSalle players who scored over 20 points in the Rebels’ win against Huntington Prep (W.Va.). March scored 29 points while Patrick Weldon and Hayden Merchant added 23 and 22 points, respectively. Seton La Salle (7-3) led at halftime, 60-39.

South Side 70, Western Beaver 49 – Andrew Corfield had 20 points and Brody Almashy scored 19 for South Side (5-5) in a win at the Avella tournament. Jon Backur led Western Beaver (2-9) with 14 points.

Sto-Rox 52, Nazareth Prep 40 – Aumir Nelson scored 30 points to lead Sto-Rox (3-6) to a win at the Ambridge tournament. Shalen Burton added 11. Khylil Johnson scored 16 and Leon Harrison 11 for Nazareth Prep (4-3).

Valley 61, St. Joseph 51 – Keyziyah Clay had 12 points and Jaden Wall scored 11 to lead Valley (3-4) past tournament host St. Joseph in the consolation game. Gabe Maltese finished with 19 for the Spartans (0-8) and Charlie Ross scored 15.

Girls basketball

East Fairmount (WV) 79, Woodland Hills 32 – Kenly Rogers had 16 points and Kasey Rogers scored 11 to lead East Fairmont past Woodland Hills (0-6) at the Deep Creek tournament in Maryland. Miley Young had 10 points for the Wolverines.

Freeport 47, Valley 4 Lillian Holloway scored 13 points while Tessa Keller contributed 12 points as Freeport (4-6) downed Valley (0-10) in the consolation game of the St. Joseph Tournament.

Geibel 49, Turkeyfoot Valley 44 Emma Larkin scored 42 points to lead Geibel (7-2) past Turkeyfoot Valley in nonsection play. Ava Henderson had seven points to account for the rest of Geibel’s scoring.

Mountain Ridge (MD) 52, South Park 38 – Brooke Paylo had 11 points, but South Park (4-3) lost at the Deep Creek tournament in Maryland. Sydney Snyder had a game-high 17 points for Mountain Ridge.

Peters Township 44, Olentangy Liberty (OH) 38 Daniela Radulovich, Gemma Walker and Bri Morreale all scored 12 points as Peters Township (10-0) beat Olentangy Liberty (Ohio) at the Carolina Invitational.

South Fayette 67, Livingston (TN) 41 Lainey Yater scored 24 points to lead South Fayette (6-3) over Livingston (Tenn.) at the Carolina Invitational. Erica Hall added 11 points in the win.

St. Joseph 72, Burrell 59 – Julie Spinelli scored a game-high 29 points to lead the host Spartans in the championship game of the St. Joseph tournament. Gia Richter added 15 points, Anna Kreinbrook 12 and Emma Swierczewski 11 for St. Joseph (7-2). Casey Brancato scored 19 points and Julianna Fisher added 18 for Burrell (7-1).

Trinity 56, Southern Garrett (MD) 47 – Ruby Morgan had 20 points and hit five 3-pointers, while Maddy Roberts scored 18 and grabbed 17 rebounds to propel Trinity (7-1) to victory at the Deep Creek tournament in Maryland.

Union 57, Obama Academy 37 Kelly Cleaver scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Union (6-5) defeated Obama Academy (1-4) at the Holiday Bash at Geneva. Kylie Fruehstorfer added 18 points, five rebounds and five assists. Gionna Simmons paced Obama Academy with 18 points while teammate Taylor Phillips added 12 points.
