Derry Area wrestler Jimmy Gulibon is in Hershey this weekend, trying to make history. The Derry senior is trying to become only the 10th wrestler in Pennsylvania to win four state titles. If Gulibon wins, this one would probably mean the most, simply because of what he overcame this season. Flash back to late December, when Gulibon was wrestling in the finals of the Powerade Tournament. He won, but sustained a left knee injury. Gulibon, and some others, thought the injury might be serious. They thought it might be an ACL tear. “He was very scared because he never even really had an injury before,” said Derry coach Mike Weinell. “We didn’t know at the time how serious it was. Jimmy just knew he couldn’t do what he does. He couldn’t push off his foot or his leg.”2012 WPIAL Team Wrestling Sectionals RESULTS

With the WPIAL Team Wrestling Playoffs starting next week, the steering committee got a hand Wednesday night with the team sectionals taking place at seven different sites. Six of the eight WPIAL boys soccer teams playing in the state playoffs won their opening round contest and are moving on to the second round, including district champions Upper St. Clair in AAA and Hampton in AA. It was a repeat performance for Hampton, and for the 2nd straight season, the Talbots are the WPIAL Boys Class-AA champions. The three district boys soccer champions from 2010 all entered Super Soccer Saturday with a chance to repeat here in 2011. Two teams, Hampton in AA and Seton-LaSalle in A were able to succeed in winning more gold on the pitch. The matchups have been set and the countdown begins for the ceremonial ribbon to be cut for the opening of the Highway to Heinz.
