Hopewell’s Rushel Shell has a chance to break the state career rushing record in Friday night’s WPIAL Quarterfinals against Franklin Regional. That alone makes this game special.But Shell and a running back in a Franklin Regional uniform truly make this a playoff game for the ages.

WPIAL Recruiting – Shaler’s Thorpe Picks PSU Hoops

Shaler Area High School has one student who will be a future Penn State football player. Now Shaler has a student who will be a future Penn State basketball player. Geno Thorpe, a junior at Shaler Area, made a verbal commitment to Penn State this morning. He made the commitment when new Penn State coach Patrick Chambers called him at 6 a.m. to wish him a happy birthday.

Since the WPIAL formed Class AAAA football in 1980, only six running backs who played in Class AAAA rushed for more than 4,000 career yards.But two of them reached the milestone on the same night Friday.Mount Lebanon’s Luke Hagy and Pittsburgh Central Catholic’s Damion Jones-Moore had big games in victories Friday night and also pushed past 4,000 yards.

Delrece Williams was a prolific runner at Steel Valley High School, but when he graduated from Steel Valley High School, he had to pass the baton to the next star tailback.It turns out Williams didn’t have to go far to pass the baton. In fact, he didn’t even have to leave his house.

The decision might come as a surprise to some because college interest was starting to pick up in Mason, who led the WPIAL in scoring last season at 33.3 points and scored 64 in one game. Butler University coach Brad Stevens came to watch Mason work out at Highlands last week and requested grade transcripts on Mason. No scholarship offer was made.

It was a rare season in the WPIAL in terms of points. Three players averaged 30 points or more for the first time in at least 25 years. All three of those players are the MSA Sports Boys All-Netters team.

Mount Lebanon, Montour, Greensburg CC & Lincoln Park All Settle for Silver in PIAA Boys Basketball Playoffs

There is plenty of silver to be found in Southwestern Pennsylvania following the state basketball championships at Penn State University. Mount Lebanon in AAAA, Montour in AAA, Greensburg Central Catholic in AA and Lincoln Park in A all lost in the state finals in Happy Valley, three of them fell to District 12 powers while Mount Lebanon lost to the District 1 champs.

Imhotep Charter Rolls to Boys Class AA State Title Win Over GCC

Imohtep Charter won their second PIAA Class AA basketball champions and there was no double overtime this time as the Panthers smoked the Greensburg Central Catholic Centurions 67-34 on Saturday at the Bryce Jordan Center. 10 different players scored for the Panthers as they exploded in the second half to claim the gold.

Mount Lebanon Takes Chester To OT Before Falling in Boys AAAA Championship
In a game that some so-called experts said would be a rout, went to overtime as Chester prevailed, winning their 7th PIAA championship with a 72-60 victory over Mount Lebanon in the Boys Quad-A title game on Saturday night at the Bryce Jordan Center.
