The Pine-Richland and North Allegheny girls soccer teams won’t wait to renew their rivalry.

The Section 1-4A teams meet Wednesday night at Pine-Richland on the first day of section play in the WPIAL. The two teams met three times last season and finished 1-1-1 in head-to-head contests.

Wednesday’s match starts at 7:30 p.m.

Pine-Richland won the first matchup 4-2 last season, and they tied 2-2 in the regular-season rematch. However, North Allegheny won 2-0 when they met again in the WPIAL Class 4A quarterfinals.

Pine-Richland (2-0) finished 16-2-1 a year ago, while North Allegheny (1-0) went 14-8-1.

WCCA girls golf tournament

The Westmoreland County Coaches Association will hold its girls golf championship Wednesday at Champion Lakes Golf Resort in Bolivar.

A year ago, Penn-Trafford’s Anna Stowers defeated teammate Lauren Barber on a tiebreaker to win the WCCA title. Both shot 43. Stowers graduated but Barber returns as a sophomore.

PIAA oversight committee

The PIAA Legislative Oversight Committee will meet Wednesday morning at Heinz Field to hear testimony from public school administrators unhappy with the current state playoff system.

Laurel superintendent Leonard Rich is among the administrators scheduled to testify in favor of separate playoff systems for so-called boundary and non-boundary schools. Non-boundary schools include private, parochial and charter schools.

The hearing starts at 10 a.m.
